Matthews has been injured all season, he confirmed it himself.

Leaving out games played to suit your narrative I see.

Matthews' second-best season was 52GP 41G 25A 66P (82GP 65G 39A 104P)... not a bad season.

In the season I used, Matthews was 0.38ppg behind McDavid.

In the season you suggest is better, he's 0.61ppg behind McDavid.

So.... Sure... But what's your point exactly? Lol

That’s quite asinine

After 1st 3 seasons

Matthews
212 GP, 111 G, 94 A, 205 P

Stutzle
201 GP, 69 G, 99 A, 168 P

Clear advantage to Matthews. Matthews did however come into the league far more physically developed so let’s look specifically at their 3rd seasons.

Matthews
68 GP, 37 G, 36 A, 73 P

Stutzle
69 GP, 35 G, 46 A, 81 P

Seems like a small advantage to Stutzle.

Now for the best part as a Sens fan.

Post ELC contract

Matthews 5 x 11,640,250.00
Stutzle 8 x 8,350,00.00

Massive advantage for the Sens.

Really the perception of Matthews is skewed by his one outstanding season out of 7.
Now do defensive numbers and adjust for league scoring levels.

Sure.

In their 3rd seasons Matthews was a team worst minus 9 (Hainsey +30, Marner +22) while Stutzle is -2 with +6 leading the team and -33 being worst. Clear advantage to Stutzle.

In their 3rd seasons Matthews was 21st league wide in Points per game while Stutzle is 15th. Another clear win for Stutzle.

Should probably do defensive metrics not +/- (or don’t look at this year for that 👀)

So you still haven't addressed the 1 question I asked. I'm still not sure if you're purposely playing stupid or if you just came into the middle of something and are confused and just decided to flip a side and pick a coin.

"Does Craig button poster ever vote for Ottawa in any poll ever?"

Do you have an answer to that? No? Then why are you quoting me to create strawman?

Do you always just love to create men out of straw? What a strange, strange post from you.
Not answering a question and causing you to call him out, then calling your call out a tangent and refusing to address the question at hand by going on a tangent himself about your supposed tangent.

Nice.

Whats's the justification for putting a forward who curently sits 23rd in points, as high as 2nd best in the NHL?

I understand he won the Hart last year, but does that mean you also thought Taylor Hall was the 2nd best player in the world in 2019?

Best season before winning Hart: 80pts in 75 games
Hall's Hart season: 15pts behind McDavid
Following year: Injured and 0.53 points per game behind league leader (Kucherov)

Best season before winning Hart: 80pts in 70 games
Matthews Hart season: 17pts behind McDavid
Follwoing year: Injured and 0.75 points per game behind league leader (McD)
Over the last 3 years:
- Most goals scored
- Highest ESG/60 and G/GP.
- 4th in points, 5th in P/GP, 2nd in ESP/60.
- 2nd in blocked shots, 1st in shots taken
- 5th in +/- (for what that’s worth)

If you’re trying to say Matthews is like Taylor Hall, please say so so that I can just ignore your posts going forward because that’s an atrocious take

It’s hard to talk about Matthews and not talk about him being injured. Happens quite a bit.

+/- is not a defensive metric regardless of how you use it. They are outcome driven statistics that have lend no credence to process and aren't very repeatable.
I used +/- compared to the rest of their teams. The comparison is based on each players 3rd season.

When there is a massive outlier on a team like Matthews 3rd season one can easily assume that it points to being very poor defensively. Feel free to post the 2018-19 advanced stats that show Matthews wasn’t a huge liability defensively.

God this thread is going to be a HF HOF thread you can feel it. How many times do people need to be proven wrong comparing lesser players to Matthews before they stop? This one will look as laughable as any other. There was a time Aho > Matthews on here.

Yes, the outlier season where he had a PDO of 99.6 when his career average is 103 proves he was very poor defensively that season. You have no idea what you're talking about.

The irony in this statement is absolutely rich considering how hard Leafs fans push Matthews being equal to or better than McDavid...

YAWN

Last year saying he was arguably a better player and the fact he swept the awards is not far fetched. No one is saying that this year for good reason.

Oilers fans are so insecure with this topic I don't get it. McDavid is better. Happy?

again, massive irony, considering that even the suggestion that Stutzle might have more trade value was enough to send you and others into a tizzy.

No it's just old honestly. Was interesting when it was Laine, then it was Eichel, Pettersson, Aho, etc etc. Now it is Stutzle.

All I am saying is this will end the same way.. Bumped while Leaf fans laugh and everyone vanishes who claimed they wouldn't do the trade. Then we pretend the thread never happened

Two superstars. Stutzle being cheaper and younger would make me keep him.
A superstar with a trophy case and a rising star who potential is unclear.
The cap savings is good but Tim isn't going to displace Matthews mcdavid leon etc etc.

I like the kid and he is talented but I put him at full potential better then Nylnader and not as good as marner .
To keep this easy , dubas isn't interested in Tim for AM34 unless it purely a contract thing and matthews is leaving

Sorry what? A superstar with a trophy case? He’s got what else beside a rocket richard?

Also, Stutzle unknown potential? He just turned 21 years old and has 81 points in 69 games. I think it’s safe to say Stutzle is a star already.
