World U20 Summer 2022 edition

we have to agree to disagree, I'm with you that there shouldn't be any sanctions whatsoever on the individuals so I don't think that russian players should be banned in the draft or league but representing the federation in a national team is a different story and like somebody else mentioned before there are lot of teams who would refuse to play team russia at the moment
Appreciate your reply and opinion. We all have the right to those. I see it as crushing the hopes and dreams of these 18 year old for political leverage. Sacrificing the pinnacle of many of these young mens hockey careers because of where they were born.

Let’s agree to disagree.

Cheers!

I have to agree with Swiss on this.

sure young men's dreams might be altered but I prefer that over innocent lives being lost for basically nothing but an act of aggression.

Defending liberty has a price.

It's nice to have some summer world juniors but it sucks not having Russia playing in the tournament, especially when we miss out on seeing Michkov play. The worst part of it is seeing this hockey tournament being used to push a political agenda.

Russia are a tent pole team for the tournament and it's just not a proper WJ without them. That 2020 Gold medal game was one of my favorite hockey games I've seen in the last 10 years.

I would stop visas for russians too.

I do not miss them for a second

I agree. It's a difficult balancing act.

I wish Russia was here.

The night before the event and feels nothing like it normally does on December 25th of each year.

Hopefully the tourney will bring some entertainment but this is the time of year i watch tennis, baseball and soccer.

Yea, at no point were any innocent lives at risk by letting some kids play a hockey tournament. Their lives were at greater risk driving to and from the arena.

Finns. This team should be better than during December since we added Räty.

Ofc Blomqvist won't be there but that was a coach decision
Good chance for Gold then. I am not as grumpy about that as i act(in previous post). Rather Finland win then Canada. But my Swedish heart will cry a little bit. But Finland deserve some years of success after all the great players you develop. And it might show Sweden that u need a good coach, and a better development plan. Hoping for battles like in the Sundin, P .Forsberg vs Selanne , Koivo era in the future. Just waiting for our P. Forsberg and Sundin...

What Russia is doing in Ukraine is beyond something that could be described. Sure those hockey players are not directly responsible, but so are not millions of Ukrainians in their own freaking land. And those Ukrainians have to respond with so much more than just a hockey tournament.

Russia is rotten, pretty much always has been. If they want to ruin tens of millions of people's lives, there have to be also political measures. I don't feel sorry one bit. Representing a killing imperialistic regime is nothing to be proud of.

You either understand it or you don't or maybe some lives simply don't matter eh?

International tournaments are entertainment countries don't have rights to be there and even if one argues that they do, they also have responsibilities and when a country breaks them that country gets punished, it's not a hard concept.

If the invasion had gone like the Russians had hoped, Ukrainian sports federations would have likely been disbanded.

Missing Russia is a big drag on this tourney. While I don't think it's the biggest deal in the world for this summer re-do of a tournament that should have never been cancelled in the first place, they should be re-instated for December. Those kids didn't invade another country, so there is no sense in punishing them and we had meaningful competition against Russia when they actually were our enemy/threat during the Cold War (see Summit Series, Winter Olympics, WJC/WC/Canada Cups until 1991).

Unfortunately,They are still our enemy geopolitically.

And? So is China but we compete against them at various sports. The USSR was our enemy and we were actively engaged in proxy-wars against them for decades, but that didn't stop us then.
And nothing, you had said when Russia was Actually our enemy in the cold war days, implying that they no longer are, I'm just pointing out they still are. The end of the cold war didnt change that.
