I've made the comparison before, but Bouchard is a lot like Pulock was. All offense, defensive issues and mobility concerns. It's taken a while and the Isles did him no favors, but he's improved his skating and his defensive game. The future is bright now, but it was a process.

I remember watching Pulock back in his WHL days, that's a good comparison. He made some major strides this year by most accounts, he's a good player.

Bouchards made some smart reads offensively but Canada has been short handed so often we haven't seen much of a groove to this game.

The kid probably just needs time and some teaching, plus it's August hockey.

Dewar, Entwhistle have really surprised me. They are good players for the 4th line to kill penalties and safe two-way guys. Not sure how I feel about McLeod, Mattheos, Bowers, Frost, Suzuki. None of them have really impressed me. Ratcliffe, Teasdale are looking like no gos. Formenton, Hayton, Lavoie look like locks IMO.

That's just from this game, Rasmussen, Comtois, Glass, Vilardi, Tippett, Foudy, Dellandrea also look like locks from last game.

They've been terrible but they keep rolling that group out we're what 0-5 on the PP? Haven't bothered to double check
No one is even remotely a threat to shoot. Smith isn’t which is fine but what bugs me is both wingers on the wrong sides.

Vilardi was invisible last game

4-1. Good to win but that was a pretty dull game overall.

We should have a couple good games tomorrow I think.

He didn't play last game, he's injured along with Almeida, Bellerive, Brook, Tippett, Thomas.

I am not sure if your reply completes my joke, or makes it super confusing. See, you were the one who mentioned him as having played. Or did he become a lock by not playing? See what I mean, confusing.

Oh my bad, I started off from last game, then mentioned locks in general.

The problem with Bouchard is that his angles and spacing are poor defensively and he lacks footspeed. If they are walking him at the junior level he will get torched in the NHL. Luckily he has tons of time as long as Edmonton is patient.
Since when are the Oilers patient with their kids? They rushed about everyone of them outside McDavid who was obviously ready...

Look, I have the same concerns about Bouchard as everyone else but to try to extrapolate anything good or bad from a meaningless summer shinny game is silly.

The thing is, we are seeing the same red flags that we were seeing last season with the Knights and you can see that defensively, he is easily one of the worst of the bunch the way he handles himself... Bouchard will have to improve defensively to make TC this year, he is far from being a lock at this point IMO.

I really like Formenton and Comtois. Even if they're used in a 4th line role again at the WJC, I can see them being really important to the success of the team.

How was Smith?

He was one of the better defenseman in the game. Canada's best puck mover.

Though I would say no one on Canada looked "good", except maybe Formenton. Everyone else ranged from invisible to mediocre. The game in general was extremely sloppy, which is to be expected.

Yeah. Glorified exhibition game

You can't really take anything from the game. But you can be sure that a few people around here will base all their opinions off these games because it is their first time seeing plenty of these players.
