Has this tournament ever had "good" attendance? EDIT: Just looked at some vids on youtube of last y ears tourney, looks about the same.
I'll make some broad assumptions about hockey fans in Kamloops (I live here) but lets think of it this way:
During the season 100% of people who are interested (not just fans, but also casuals) in hockey have the possiblity of going to a game.(so our possible ticket base is at 100%), say 60-70% of those people can ACTUALLY go on a given night or day due to other things going on in their life or money, or what have you. Then, maybe 50% of those people actually WANT to go on any given night or day. Then 50% of those people actually go. so like 10-15% of hockey fans will make it to the games (maybe less, who knows).
Now, during the middle of the summer, let say the number of people who are interested in hockey drops by 25-30%. The rest of the numbers do to. It's not that easy to get people inside for a hockey game in July and beginning of August. The Canada v USA showdown will be better, but not great.
We play better when we are bigger underdogs. A bit surprising but I take it. Sounds like some guys have improved a lot, nice to hear. This team Finland doesn't look nearly as bad as their fans were making them out to be.

Yeah, underdog status is historically where Finland seems to play best.We play better when we are bigger underdogs. A bit surprising but I take it. Sounds like some guys have improved a lot, nice to hear.
Very nice to hear. It hasn't been the best time for me so I don't feel like watching hockey at the moment, but still nice to hear reports and see team Finland win some games.Yeah, underdog status is historically where Finland seems to play best.
At this thing you are certainly missing loads of your top guys but I think the fill ins have been pretty solid so far. Looking for a good 2 periods of hockey ahead.
Well, hope things turn around for you, I am sure they will.Very nice to hear. It hasn't been the best time for me so I don't feel like watching hockey at the moment, but still nice to hear reports and see team Finland win some games.
Or at least compete at the high level, if they don't win.
I guess it's game with Canada will bring the bestQhughes is healthy scratch after 3 point game![]()
Maybe a big city is the answer.Calgary was pretty good in 2015. I went to a couple games and the building was full.
I don't think the goal of this tournament is really to be a money maker. Its goal is to be a small exhibition where they can get a look at the team and hopefully bond. I would guess that is why they would choose a place like Kamloops that is sort of out of the way, and may have easier access to facilities and ability to get around. Compared to hosting it in a major city again like Toronto or Montreal, where hotels will be pretty expensive and you have to drive kids around everywhere. Its pretty clear the tournament they are trying to turn into a money maker is Hlinka.Calgary was pretty good in 2015. I went to a couple games and the building was full.
I think they want it in a remote location where they have easy access to facilities and getting around. The costs and amount of driving around if they put it in Toronto, for example, would be absurd. This allows them to get around town easily, have team outings and team bonding. I don't think the intent is to make significant money off this.Maybe a big city is the answer.
They are getting outplayed quite a bit IMOIts funny how Finland almost every year looses to USA half squads but then gathers up and beats or does well against the full USA team
