That penalty song was fun at first but it's only day 2 and it's starting to get seriously annoying.

This game has turned for USA quite a bit. It looks like the Red Wings this season.

They have flashes from Seider or Stutzle or Reichel or Bokk, but largely they just lack talent across the board and can’t handle the depth of USA.

I mean, what is location, really
It remains to be seen whether Seider will develop a NHL level offensive game but he is unshakeable in his own zone and the neutral zone. Kids got ice cold nerves. Incredible shutdown D, the Americans couldn’t do anything when he was on the ice.
His stickhandling is still so good. At one point he broke the offensive zone by himself, and it was a beauty. And he passes quite well, especially on the PP. He just needs that shot.

That was the meanest game I've seen him play, though. He had a TON of hits, and a lot of them were pretty nasty. A couple were borderline.

Agreed. And it’s hard to draw conclusions from these games because he is playing almost 30 min a game for Germany, so it makes sense for him to conserve energy and not push the offense with high energy plays. I think he’s got the IQ and tools to be a Hedman level defense man TBH. Stylistically very similar too.

Fantastic pick by Stevie imo.

The kid plays the game like it's 2002, looks like Pronger-lite.

I think defensively he is fantastic, his IQ is through the roof and I love that he plays physical and has that dirty cheap nasty side to his game. He's also a superb skater, puck handler, and a passer. The area that he needs work on is his shot. If this kid develops an elite shot, he will be a 50+ point dman in the NHL.

Mo showed a ton of offensive flair in camp before the season. I’m hoping he develops a more assertive offensive game (including a shot) as time progresses. Gotta remember he is 18 until the spring... this is just the beginning for him hopefully.

Maybe.

But at this point of tank I want the sure bet which is Lafreniere. Not any hopefuls anymore. I want the best non-NHLr to join us and change the organizational direction.

There is nothing for sure in life except death. You don't base a draft decision on one WJC game.

I don't see much offensive skill. I think he'll be passable to good as a puck mover in transition, and passable at the point.
But what I love is his defensive work and willingness to use his size to punish opposition.

I think a majority of people on this board like Veleno, I think the disconnect is when we get to what peoples expectations are for him. A few people on this board are already penciling him in as the Wings future 2nd line center behind Larks, I am not in that group. Granted I haven't watched any GRG games this season but from watching preseason games and this single WJC game (huge sample size I know) I'm just not seeing anything that would lead me to conclude he is going to become more than what his draft day comparable was, which was Lars Eller (the Capitals version). Basically a middle six tweener that with the tools they possess will always leave you wanting more, which isn't a bad player at all and he still has a lot of time to develop but I'm just not seeing the surefire top 6 center that others are seeing. He doesn't have any weakness's but I'm not really seeing anything that's standing out as an elite skill.

Thought McIsaac had a pretty good game for playing just 3 games this season. Looking forward to see how he does for the remainder of the season.

I think the main reason he gets penciled in the #2 c spot long term is outside of Veleno we have no one else that could make it their atm. We need another top 5 pick at least to fill that slot, + one more for a top pairing d.

I just finished rewatching the Sweden game from yesterday and I'm curious as to what you didn't like from Raymond? I thought he was Sweden's best forward. His playmaking is certainly elite but the one thing that really stood out was his positioning, he's constantly moving without the puck trying to get into a better lane to receive a pass or tip a shot on net. He always seems to be in the right spot, whether it's on the PP, defensive zone or even getting in lane to keep a puck from exiting the offensive zone. His hockey IQ maybe 2nd to only Laf in this draft.
It was very easy to tell he wasn’t 100%. He’s usually much more assertive (like Holtz was) and is constantly creating offense. But even in a quiet game for his standards, he was brilliant (after the 1st period). His back checking and play along the boards seems to have improved.
Right now I’d be very happy with taking any one of these 4:
1. Lafreniere
2. Byfield
3. Raymond
4. Strutzle

Raymond at 80% still looks better than most guys at 100%, that hockey IQ is a special tool he has. Switch up him and Byfield and our top 4 looks the same.
