Just because you don't speak perfect English, doesn't mean you don't know what you're saying. Yakupov isn't stupid and he was in full control of what he said. Hope the Canadian boys show him the reality of some good clean hockey.

My comment was more of a general statement. I didn't actually see or hear what Yakupov said before hand. What DID he say?

Reporters asked if he thinks Canada is dirty and he said he never said that and that he said something about team play, and he forgot what he said. All while looking very nervous IMO. lol

Did you guys read all of Don Cherrys Tweets about Yakupov? wow lol

I like watching Cherry, but I don't put a lot of stock in his isolationist outlook.

Exchanging ideas with everyone around the world is better than putting your head in the sand. That might even mean you bring more talented people into the country for those exchanges. Yakupov is a very talented kid, Cherry is a mature adult. We expect more growth from one than the other.

World Junior Notes

Since Iʼm awake at what can only be described as an ungodly hour to watch what little bit of hockey we actually DO get to enjoy this winter, I thought weʼd take a look at some interesting things of note so far in this annual tournament of country pride.

If Morgan made as many mistakes as Jones we'd never hear the end of it.

Morgan had a good game, made some good offensive and defensive plays.

No ****.
Looks like the second coming of Jesus is human afterall. I don't care how you spin it, he's been poor against top competition in this tournament. He was lazy against the Russians, and made bad decisions, and he was a turnover machine last night.

He's a great prospect, but it's time to come back to earth. He's struggling against good competition so far.

Hockey IQ is supposed to be a strength of his, but he's played like a bonehead the last two games.

Have to admit that I enjoyed watching him struggle after the comments he made before the tournament :naughty:

Absolutely. You're not even drafted yet. Keep your big yap shut, and stop giving people bulletin board material, because that's all it's been. He hasn't backed up a word of it, and neither has the entire US team.

They'll be bowing out early.
I think Canada takes gold.

Stock Up:
Drouin
Ristolainen

Subban was great today, and I've really been one who has wondered about his play so far. I thought the US really outplayed us in the first, and then had that long stretch in the second where we were in the box, Subban kept us in the game then.

Drouin was very flashy, but didn't particularly get much done, but then the US had some solid goaltending today too. MacKinnon had some good moments as well.

Jones didn't have a good game, but that is probably because Team Canada targeted him, like they tend to do with big name players from other countries.

Rielly looked good to me, some good rushes, some great passes, and a few good poke checks and positioning. Not many errors on his part.

I also liked what Biggs brought to the table in the game, and hope he continues his progress. Sure, Gibson was very good today, and we can play the could have, would have, should have. Goalies are very difficult to predict what they will become. I don't have an issue with the Biggs pick, he is a big kid, aggressive, hits like a truck.. and I hope in two or three years he is doing just that on the third or fourth line for us.

Does anyone remember the remarkable performance by Jack Campbell? Justin Pogge?
Goalies are hard to guage. This tournament has been a launching pad for goalie stock, but the results afterwards are questionable. I think Gibson is really solid, however.

Agreed. With the way Jones has performed, I think he should go last overall, but would be lucky to still be taken in the first round.

Either a hefty dose of sarcasm, or a little overreaction.

He's a top 5 pick, but he's not looking like a top 2 pick at all.

What did Jones say?

Jones reminded me of Phaneuf. And it wasn't because they both wore the same number.

To all the Jones bashers, he has still been much better than Barkov, and until today's game Mackinnon. The only draft player with a better showing is Jonathan Drouin.

Jones had a couple of great chances today to make a difference, one was a great save by Subban, another was a shot that just missed. He looks better than Dougie Hamilton infact. Infact he looks far better than Trouba did last year at the same tourney.

Jones is very much looking like the 1-2 top player to be take next summer. He has not slid in my rankings and Button's also from his TSN interview. He is such a possible difference maker out there.

His game wasn't even that bad today to warrant the bangwagon jumping.

Jones made more of an impact than Gally did 5 on 5 today, tell me that was not the case. Could very well scored 2 goals and the bashers would have been on mute, had Subban not made one great save and had the other shot not slid wide.

Curious to see who starts between Makarov and Vasilevski. Vasilevski was good in his 2 games, but Makarov was really good against the States so I think it will be him. Won't be easy to score no matter who starts.

He definitely made an impact, just not a particularly positive one.

Jones was fine. I've seen very little of the guy but I thought he was the Americans biggest threat out there along with Trouba. With those 2 firing from the point, on the PP especially I was worried one was going to get through. Jones can tee up almost any pass into a one-timer that looks to be almost always on net. A couple lucky bounces or if Subban wasn't on his game it could have easily been 3-2 US with Jones scoring 2, and I think we'd all be singing a different tune.

How has Rielley been doing this tournament? I have watched all the games but haven't really seen him play.

It's Simple: Whoever shows up in these games, their stock will go up. Jones' has had tow bad back-to-back games, NMK has shown signs of brilliance, but Drouin has been the one who has impressed me the most.
