Ryan Murphy is the hockey version of a street baller. He just seems to be all about individual efforts, flashy uneconomical moves like spin-o-rama passes on the point on power plays and holding onto the puck way too long to try to make some low percentage, easily defendable play. He's so ****** it's not funny.

Here's the thing about Ryan Murphy, everything Spott wants him to be is available in Morgan Rielly(lol). The stuff that Murphy is supposedly known for is done at a higher level by(you guessed it) Morgan Rielly.

0 Points in 3 games while getting ever opportunity to succeed should have ended Spott's mancrush long ago. It's not like Murphy is wowing anyone with his defensive-play nor decision making skills because both have been mediocre at best.

Kind of reminds when Quinn used Cujo to start against the Swedes back in the 02 olympics...he got torched and Quinn went right back to Brodeur lol. Too bad we don't see that here.

Rielly is leading all D-men in scoring(once IIHF credits him for that assist in game 1) and he's also tied for highest plus minus with 2 others. Come to think of it, I don't even think he's been on the ice for a goal all tourney...

It's nice to know that it's not just Leafs fans that think Rielly should be getting more ice time over Murphy. At least we can't be seen as bias if pretty much everyone else agrees! I wouldn't say that Rielly has wowed me in this tournament - he's been pretty quiet but solid. I really like how he and Oullette work together. Why isn't Spott using them together more often?

Trouba was awesome. Looks like the Jets got a great pick. Gibson was a trooper and while I'm not sorry they lost, it sucks for him that he could play such solid games back to back and still come out with back to back regulation losses. He can't do more than he's doing right now for the team unless someone expects him to start scoring goals too.

Subban was great in net but I will credit the defense as well as I think it was the best defensive effort from the backend that TC has seen so far in this tournament.

This is a great post, and so true.

While he did make some great saves during the game, both of the goals he allowed were weak goals. RNH's wrister from the top of the circle, and the wraparound that beat him. With a great performance, the US would have won the game 1-0.

The one thing that stood out to me today was how good Trouba is. He'll be the steal of the draft for the Jets. The rest of the US team was very unimpressive. Galchenyuk couldn't hit the broad side of a barn, obviously this was uncharacteristic for him and will be great for the Habs, but Canada was lucky he wasn't on his game today.

Huberdeau has also been extremely underwhelming. I think he's been very comfortable dominating in a soft, offensive league and is struggling against larger and stronger players his age. I'm not sure how he will fare in the pro game.

Rielly has been decent but you can tell the coaching staff have the reigns on him. I think he's used to going end to end almost every shift in the WHL and is finding it difficult to play a more structured game. Spott isn't reaping the benefits of his offensive instincts, so I wouldn't gauge his potential from this tourney. When he's given the opportunity to use his creativity and puck handling ability, the human highlight reel surfaces.

I agree that the goals allowed were definitely possible to save but he and Trouba were the best players for the US. Every time a puck gets to a goalie, it's because the players in front of him made a mistake and he has to bail them out with a save. When a puck gets past a goalie, the guys in front of him should be expected to do the same and score a goal for him. Being down 2-0 isn't an insurmountable deficit to rally back from and they had more than enough PP opportunities to do so. Subban let in a stoppable puck as well. I could just as easily say if he had a great performance, then it would have gone 0-0 in regulation, then 0-0 in OT and I guess the shootout would still be going on as we speak. Only one team can win and Gibson wasn't the reason his team lost, he was the reason his team had the chance to win but simply couldn't get the job done.

Canada lines shuffled v Russia: Drouin-RNH-Scheifele; Huberdeau-Strome-Rattie; Danault-Jenner-Ritchie; Camara-McNeill-MacKinnon/Lipon

Why the hell would you break up that top line? Huberdeau was quietly setting up those guys with no one the wiser!
Agree with the above. Trouba is looking fantastic.

And Strome is slowly converting me.
He was the best American player not named Gibson by a MILE.

I was honestly shocked at how this guy could go up and down the ice like it was nothing and still have enough gas to break up plays going the other way.

He also has a ton of bite to his play.

I expected a lot more from Galchenyuk, don't get me wrong, I still think he's going to be a fantastic NHL player- I just was surprised he settled for the permitter game against Canada, that made their job easy.

Trouba is actually a really good puck mover and has a booming shot too.

I guess you can say he is the full-package.

You get it all with him.

No doubt that Trouba looked really good, but I was also impressed with Gostisbehere. He seemed like a pretty shifty and offensively skilled defenseman. Anyone know his draft history?

Not sure why everyone is surprised by Trouba.... he was one of the USA's best defenceman last year when he was 17. He is a great all around player, who wants the puck on his stick

Ghost is a flyers 3rd round draft pick, I only know this because I picked him up in my keeper league.

Great mobility and offensive skills
