I kind of understand what Subban was saying earlier...it's a lot easier to work harder against teams like USA and Russia.

Teams like Germany, Slovakia...Canada would really have to try hard to come out with a loss. He's been great so far.

This WJC proves to me that Huberdeau is easily quite better than Galchenyuk. This guy has the potential to be as good as RNH IMO.

Panthers are lucky..

Woot.

New strategy: send player hit by potential 5-minute penalty to the locker room for a minute to get the call. :handclap:

Intense first period. Sick ass shots by both Hamilton and Kucherov. What a game this is and is gonna be!

Rielly hasn't looked that great so far. No glaring mistakes or anything, but just hasn't looked as good as the last couple games.

Is there an ice time tracker anywhere?

I'd be surprised if he was on the ice for more than 3-4 minutes..

I am actually amazed how much better he could do if he was on the first PP.

If he goes next year, he can get the "veteran" tag. Murphy, Hamilton etc get more ice time because they are older, make no sense why Ouellet and Rielly don't get more ice time without that.

Bomber's 1st period summary

- Incredibly fast pace to the game. Very few stoppages...both teams came out flying.

- A 5 minute penalty gave Canada their 2-0 lead, and Scheifele (who also scored) made a very bad giveaway to cut the lead in half. Canada's powerplay has found life.

Some individual points:

- Grigorenko is a very smart playmaker. A very precise passer and seems to find stick blades where most players wouldn't.

- Boone Jenner came back for Canada with a vengeance. Lots of energy and is tireless in his effort.

- Ouelett, Harrington, and Hamilton led the defensive effort for Canada...shutting down the Russians.

- Tyler Wotherspoon has been getting abused out there lol

- Morgan Rielly's first touch of the puck resulted in him fanning his pass and leading to a scoring chance. He is losing battles (or needs assistance) on the boards and I feel this is important to note for Leafs fans. On the powerplay, a whole different story and he is simply a marvel to watch with his trifecta of skating ability, passing ability, and hockey IQ. He is so good on the point it is joy to watch.

- Murphy and Hamilton have been better on the PP, but I suppose this is long overdue. Hamilton's shot was perfect and Murphy too has been shooting well. When you shoot like that, eventually it goes in.

- Yakupov was shut down and in particular we saw Rielly handle him well in open ice in a short handed opportunity for Nail. Oulette hit him well too. Yakupov has been a non-factor but that effort needs to continue because he can come out of nowhere.

Well according to Spott the veterans gets more play time. Some of his calls have been questionable. Example Huberdeau Alternate captain instead of RNH, Mackinnon at the fourth line.

He had a pretty rough turnover in his own zone on his first shift and I think Spott didn't put him back out for 7 or 8 minutes after that.

?

Isn't RNH captain anyways?

Team Canada has way too many good players that it definitely has to have some sort of senior priority.

Team's like USA, Sweden etc have no choice but to play their best players they have no matter what age.

I just think that ice time should have have some sort of merit, Ryan Murphy has just not been able to get it going on the PP yet we persist with him.

I mean Huberdeau Alternate Captain instead of captain, even though he's following a veteran first team.
