Wanna play any other sport other than hockey and beat us?

Didn't think so....
That's LAME. Don't forget that Finland has a population of just about 5 million. You want another sport? Try ski jumping or cross country skiing. Let's see who's going to be better.

If it's Canada you're talking about, then let's play curling. : :D

Wow, what a great TEAM Finland is. They came in with a game plan and executed it to perfection. Congrats!!!
This was one of the most entertaining defensive battles I've seen in a while.

Great hockey...

I don't bother to look who It was on some thread who said that Finland had 1 game left in this tournament (after the Germany game). But luck to him/her too :yo:

Yeah, it was in the Sweden-Czech game topic. I was kindly enough to get it up to remind him/her about that too.

I still can`t believe what happened. No hope for sleeping. :yo:

idunno about that, i think italian soccer fans could give us a run for our money.

i'm glad finland won for 2 reasons:

1. i like to cheer for the underdog, just like everyone else. saku koivu is awesome

2. should canada make the finals (and i think they will), the USA is the team that scares me the most in that situation

i just can't bring myself to hate the younger american players the way i hate tkachuk and hull and chelios...but i'm sure i'll learn to in time...

Totally agree except for one thing - Kipper scares me most of all. Just like in 96, when the deciding factor was Richter, I'm afriad of seeing that again.

And why do people respond to idiots? Responding to it fuels the fire. Just let it go. Obviously, they have nothing better to do on a friday night than to try to start **** on the internet.

And to the Americans whining about Canadians talking smack, go look at the thread after the US won the exhibition game against Canada. Thats the pot calling the kettle black after the pot called him black...

And to Tkachuk and Hull and Chelios... have fun watching the rest of the tournament. Oh, sorry Hull. I forgot you've been watching a couple games already.

Shoulda picked Mike York for the team.

Which came from Roslagen in Sweden, which also is chronicled in the Nestor chronicles. The name "Rus" also survives in the finnish name for sweden - Ruotsi. The first king of Novgorod was a Rus with the germanic name Rurik. And there were Vikings from lots of other places in the 400-500 years that culture existed. Friesian, German, Polish, Estonian and Finnish. Of course probably nowhere as near as widespread in those countries as it was in Scandinavia but nonetheless, there were finnish vikings.

holy cow!! hockey discussion and a history lesson..

effin' A!!

I "hate" USA because of its nonexistent interest in hockey, not because of some political or other dumb reasons. Sorry if I sounded harsh. I'm always cheering for the more deserving team, and by that I mean real hockey places like Finland and Canada or hockey maniac cities like Calgary, Montreal and Vancouver.

So I don't hate USA at all. I am just discusted by the fact that people in USA don't care about hockey. :dunno: :shakehead

Please try to understand... I'm such a hockey lover myself...

Dude say that in Boston and every college kid would whip your butt. There are areas in the US that are hockey beds. Minn is one. Mass is another...I am sure I am missing a few, but I know Mass is huge because of the colleges here. Its just not as popular as baseball, basketball and Football..its just the way it is...

I know not all Canadians are happy over the US loss. I just can't stand the ones that have to rub it in our faces though.

some times in hockey watching a dangerous foe go down brings out the worst in people.....I would much rather have seen Canada spank the US like we did earlier in the tourney......

Well whats the excuse for Canadian fans being happy the USA basketball team lost. I mean there wasnt a Canadian team there, so why not support your brothers to the south...but again...it was more haha USA lost...or the Olympics is biased to the US...I mean whats the excuse there too?

Dude, believe me I hate the amount of non hockey coverage in my country. I makes me sick, which is why I despise ESPN. I live for this sport, absolutely LIVE for it and I get so insulted when people think we don't care about the it It's just NEVER shown enough on tv here and I don't think the fans could be blammed for that. I don't know how people can't like hockey or think it's boring, you can't ask for a more exciting, intense sport.

And I do understand, I just get so defensive because it seems like the world hates us because of the views and actions of one person, I think we get and unfair rep because of that, and I hate when that's brought into sports. I'm sorry for saying what I did, I do apologize.

Can't figure that one out lol. I love baseball and watch a little bit of football, but nothing is better than hockey.

Silver from '88 Olympics in Calgary, bronze(?) in '80 Lake Placid and Bronze in Nagano '98

I could care less about basketball. By the way, where did the Canadians place in that sport? ...
Canadian sports is at a low point right now. Only in hockey do we excell but it doesn't mean we suck at everything else. Speed skating is something we do pretty well and we're ok in diving. Anyway, mentioning another sport is very LAME and immature. It's hockey we're interested here and in hockey, the USA is done.

Your arent kidding football is the only other one I like..the other two are like sissy sports...oh he touched me foul....or I dont have to be in shape to drive the ball 500 yards...At least hockey and football requires you to be strong and fit.

Eveything is a god damn conspiracy with you canucks...

There was many penalties missed both ways, but that hit was all elbow to the head...
Are you kidding? Canadians are ALWAYS accused of conspiring against Europeans. They're the ones who see conspiracy plots everytime Canada wins.

I cheered for the US. Its the players I watch all year long, so I guess I felt more familiar with them. And since it will be the only sport on tv this winter, I guess we'll all be watching more of it.

The NHL markets themselves wrong. Why on earth are they trying to win over big cities in the south. Hockey always works best in small-medium size towns where it's too cold in the winter to do anything else than drink booze or play hockey. Trying to win over the massive markets in the south will never spark a genuine interest in hockey, although I'm sure they will make more money there..

I never heard of that??? All I know is remember Gretzky whining about how they are being conspired against during the olympics...i didnt see it the other way around?

stick with footballl its the closet thing to hockey this year :shakehead

Don't even get me started lol. It's such a joke, isn't it? I cannot stand that sport, I'd rather watch grass grow.

Like I said, I like baseball but when I see a player sit out with some of these injuries they have it makes me laugh. Then you see a guy like Yzerman play on one leg in the playoffs. I takes a special person to play hockey that's for sure.

Portland and Hartford consistently put the south to shame in terms of ratings too. Yet they have no NHL teams. Its preposterous.

its very true..the colder states are usually the best and have to most fans of hockey (though there was a team from Nevada that I played against and they were one hell of a team)...but for the most part hockey is just not catching on in the south
