Don't know about you guys, but I was expecting couple of more penalties from interference (player without a puck). None came (okay one there was I think?). I would have given the penalty for that tackle againts Leetch (if I remember correctly). Commentators in Finnish tv were happy on the next shift when Leech played like normal.

Baby what hits in the first period :handclap:

You see, some people think that no one cares about anything except for hockey. WRONG. Some people up here in Canada are interested in baseball, basketball, and the other sports that our mighty Canadians play.

but they dont cheer like hockey thats my point...There are great fans of hockey here, but way more baseball fans

Correction: there are no cockier fans in sports than Canadian hockey fans.

idunno about that, i think italian soccer fans could give us a run for our money.

i'm glad finland won for 2 reasons:

1. i like to cheer for the underdog, just like everyone else. saku koivu is awesome

2. should canada make the finals (and i think they will), the USA is the team that scares me the most in that situation

brian leetch has looked pretty sub-par all tournament, and i hope he doesnt carry this play over into the NHL (if a season even takes place). lord knows we'll need him to log as many minutes as possible so as we can keep aki berg off the ice.

depending on whether there's nhl players in the olympics in 2006, that could be the last we see of the USA's "golden generation" together. and even though it was like a giant kick to the groin when they beat us back in 1996, it's still sad to see them go. i just can't bring myself to hate the younger american players the way i hate tkachuk and hull and chelios...but i'm sure i'll learn to in time...

Canadian hockey fans cocky? Well it's better than the poor "fans" USA has. I'm surprised if more than 300 000 people in USA watched the game. Ah, it's so right that USA lost. So right. Finland and Canada are true hockey nations and deserve to succeed.

Typical European hater. Sorry if that's not where you're from, it just says so in your profile, so correct me if I'm wrong.

Lets not insult particuluar fan base. If you dont have anything nice to say, dont say it.

Seriously. I'm highly insulted by that comment.

Absolutely nothing! And that's the funny part.

Really? Could have fooled me with your asinine comments. If he has nothing to do with it, shut your mouth and stop bringing him up.

Ruutu got away with some liberties during the game on Leetchie yet Brian should have been aware of whom was trailing him and how the game was being called up to that point.

Ah, was it cocky to predict a Canada-Finland final before the tourney began? Or just to bring it up now?

You watch hockey for a few thousand hours and try not to have an opinion you're confident about.

Canadian hockey fans are the truest fans in all of sport.

(though, yes, some are bandwagon jumpers)

Canada 4 Finland 1 MVP Sakic or Kiprusoff. I'm sticking to my guns.
I didn't say we weren't a great hockey nation. But if you don't think we're confident to the point of cockiness, you don't know the same hockey fans I know. We're confident about our prowess in hockey like the US is confident about their prowess in basketball, shocking underachievements notwithstanding (1996 and 2004, respectively).

And justifiably so. Let's just hope they bring the right attitude to the CZE game.

this has been a horrible horrible horrible world cup. First sweden sucks majorly, and now finland is in the final. Might as well stop watching hockey the next 40 years.

lol, horrible for you maybe.

Well, screw this back and fourth pissing match in this tread. Congrats to Finland!!

What can you say about Amonte...is it possible for a hockey player to get dumber over the years? He moves his feet, still has speed, he just cant get anything done. Its like he forgets what to do when he has the puck, and usually gets bumped off it easy. Like tonight, he lost almost all the battles he fought in the corners.

Actually Russia was such a mess back then that they asked some Vikings to come and rule them. This led to the formation of Russia. The term "Rus" is what the Vikings were called by the Russians. Probably the name of the area where the Vikings came from (today "Ros"lagen)

Many russians have ancestral lineage to viking tribes. The Rus!!!!!!!! :teach:

Which came from Roslagen in Sweden, which also is chronicled in the Nestor chronicles. The name "Rus" also survives in the finnish name for sweden - Ruotsi. The first king of Novgorod was a Rus with the germanic name Rurik. And there were Vikings from lots of other places in the 400-500 years that culture existed. Friesian, German, Polish, Estonian and Finnish. Of course probably nowhere as near as widespread in those countries as it was in Scandinavia but nonetheless, there were finnish vikings.

Ooh, baby

This is one thing that makes this so special and not so small thing I would say

I don't bother to look who It was on some thread who said that Finland had 1 game left in this tournament (after the Germany game). But luck to him/her too :yo:

Oh man, crazy finnish (pardon the pun). I wasn't really going for either team that much before the game, just chose Finland because Koivu was on the team. Koivu's goal has been my highlight of the tournament so far. I love that guy!

And to my fellow Canadians: Don't get ahead of yourselves. Czechs aren't Germany. They're probably the consensus number 2 team in the tourney. Tomorrow should be a Hell of a battle.

Yeah, it's a shame. Age, I guess. I was a big Amonte fan when he was in his prime. Always wanted to see him play for the Habs.

I "hate" USA because of its nonexistent interest in hockey, not because of some political or other dumb reasons. Sorry if I sounded harsh. I'm always cheering for the more deserving team, and by that I mean real hockey places like Finland and Canada or hockey maniac cities like Calgary, Montreal and Vancouver.

So I don't hate USA at all. I am just discusted by the fact that people in USA don't care about hockey. :dunno: :shakehead

Please try to understand... I'm such a hockey lover myself...
