I guess Denmark instead of Sweden then?

In Russian sites they were saying that dropping one or two nations (Sweden as I see :naughty:) and Czech team could make even World Championship Finals... But as Sweden was deeper low maybe Finland or Canada? Jokes aside World Cup in 2024 is very much in the air. It looks like the war in Ukraine is not showing any signs of ending I do not see Russian hockey returning any time soon... World Cup from fan point without all the best out there will take a hit and seems more and more what it is in a way more business adventure with money going to the pockets of NHL, not IIHF. This is not IIHF tournament, but NHL one.

That's fine if it doesn't happen. I'll be just as happy with a 8 game border clash with our American cousins.

I am ready to bet a good bottle of whiskey that it does not happen.

did I say it was going to happen? No. I did not. All I said was I'd like to see it. I'd be just as happy with that. Canada v USA best on best is really the best hockey there is these days in the international arena. Canada vs fill in the blank doesn't really come close.

You are severely overestimating the fans interest in such a series with no real incentive.
I don't quite understand what the Canada-US rivalry should be based on. The USA has been laughing for a long time, they have won nothing and if we are talking about a best on best tournament, then Canada is considered the main favorite to win, the USA is just another challenger like Sweden, Finland or Russia. Nobody can enjoy this, it's artificial shit and it won't have prestige at all. When Canada played against the Soviet Union, it was beyond the scope, not just hockey. It will never get into this position. As a European, I would definitely not turn on all the matches, out of those eight matches, Canada would win seven and the only one would lose in OT.

Ehhhh, we did just beat them 7-1 and we were missing quite a bit from best possible roster:
D: Knazko, Cajkovsky, Gernat, Jaros, Cernak, Marincin, Sekera, Chara
F: Cehlarik, Hrivik, Ruzicka, Studenic, Hudacek, Jurco, Kelemen, M. Pospisil, Mesar
G: Halak, Rybar (injured in tourney)

And? Compare best possible Slovakian roster with best possible Denmark roster, its equal

Well we’d have to see, the game hasn’t been played so hypotheticals aren’t possible. The defensive core difference is quite large, and sure Danes have Ehlers and Bjorkstrand but what exactly did the former do against us? Regenda looked better than he did.

Ehlers is a very good NHLer. Regenda has yet to play a NHL game. I highly doubt Regenda will produce as many points in NHL as Ehlers does.

I never said that, Regenda may never play a game in the NHL and Ehlers is a very good top 6 F. What I am saying that within that game and the 2 systems of Denmark and Slovakia playing each other, Regenda played better within his role than Ehlers did in his own role. I am talking about how they played in that specific game. So the advantages aren’t as considerable between a player in Slovak league and elite player in the NHL as one may suggest.

The NHLPA organized the 4-on-4 Challenge during the first lockout, back then it was Team Ontario, Team Québec, Team Western Canada and Team United States playing. You could easily have separate prairies teams but they wouldn't be competitive then. Some other provinces and territories have so few professional hockey players that putting together a team would be difficult.

You couldn't do an actual Canadian provinces competition. If you put Alberta and British Columbia together, Saskatchewan and Manitoba together, and the Atlantic provinces into one then you could get teams that would be reasonably competitive as long as there were AHL reinforcements.
