The world cup is so interesting in that SO few teams actually have world class players at each position.
Like... in my lifetime
France 1998
Brazil 2002
Italy 2006
Spain 2010
Germany 2014
France 2018
were all preeeeettty much complete teams with no "holes" at all.
This World Cup?
Portugal... one of the teams closer to being complete... but Pepe can be exposed these days vs top teams (insane dont have a better 2nd CB) and they will miss Jota
England have no World Class CBs
Germany have a bit of a strange team in that aside from Rudiger the defence does not have real top end guys. And even though a very talented team very few guys in absolute peak/prime, some past it, some best years ahead. Have been shaky at both ends the last few years too. Sometimes concede several, sometimes struggle to score.
Belgium are very long in the legs, especially defensively
Spain have very few players in their peak/prime... a bit like Germany. Going to be a monster team at the next World Cup but Rodri, Soler and Laporte are only 3 guys who would say are right around peak.
Netherlands don't really have any fwd who is terrifying and can consistently win games... and goalies are a bit suspect
Argentina have a deep squad with a lot of "good" players... but very few World Class guys right now. Forward group is amazing and D solid... but midfield a bit lacking someone to really run play and link up.
Brazil are closeish... but have a defence that is a biiiit past it (thought still good) and maybe a small question in midfield... just not quite the overall level in the centre of the park that some previous Brazil teams have had.
France do have a complete team on paper... but quite inexperienced defence and midfield group.
