Sorry to butt in with this take in the middle of talking of the Canada-Russia game

But if we're going to take away womens hockey due to it being extremely unbalanced then do we take away mens basketball in the summer olympics for the same reason? Its so one sided that opposing players ask the US team for autographs after games.

It's the U.S. A big gap. Spain. And nobody else.

Or does this only apply to womens sports?

During the 1st intermission on TSN they explained why both teams are wearing masks. What happened is the ROC medical officer didn't return the covid results to team Canada. The Canadians wanted to play the game and requested the ROC wear N95 masks. They accepted but requested the Canadians to wear the N95 masks.

ROC members cheating?!? You don’t say. . . .

Its been 24 years since women's hockey was introduced into the Olympics and it kinda sucks that its still almost always Canada vs the US. Would've thought that Russia and some of the European teams would've been decently competitive by now. :(

Russian media is reporting that the ROC wasn’t obliged to give Canada results.
Olympic authorities are responsible for it.

But because some ROC players previously tested positive, the Canadians demanded to see their test results from that morning. Except the ROC players weren’t tested that morning, they were tested the night before.

In the end both sides and IOC representatives decided to play the game with masks.

What a disorganized farce.

peak covid out there. yikes.

team canada also had to pull a player during warm up.

ohhh least 70 athletes arrived with positive results already. This is no surprise including 6 khlers however most of them have recovered within 5 days.

Yeah it’s silly. Men’s hockey was also owned by Canada for the first 30 or 40 years, with USA early on being the only other decent team. The history of hockey in Sweden started when the IOC for the inaugural winter games in 1920 opted for hockey instead of bandy as an event, and Sweden assembled a national hockey team mainly from bandy players. These things can take time, but in the meantime teams will develop and improve from competing within and measuring themselves against their relative peers. Sweden and Czechoslovakia were fairly even for much of early hockey history, and eventually both became great hockey nations.

At any rate, how many Olympic winter events are super competitive between nations? If there are athletes from four countries in the running it seems to me you would be lucky.

Don’t let this distract you from the fact that Hector is going to be running three Honda civics with spoon engines, and on top of that, he just went into Harry’s and bought three t66 turbos with nos, and a motec exhaust system.

The difference is that USA has actually lost and failed to win gold. 2004 Olympics, two losses in the group stage and a semifinal loss vs Argentina. Even lost vs France last year in Tokyo. It's the USA women's team that's been more impressive with 7 straight gold medal.

Major upset as Denmark beats the Czech Republic in regulation and takes the first ever Danish Olympic win in hockey. Group B is getting really interesting.
I was shocked when I saw the score.lol

Then I read about Canada game. Lots of entertainment.

Congrats to Denmark!

That Czech Japan was always for first and still is. I think whoever wins avoids north america whether in OT or regulation?

This might be good for Czechs as it'll be a nice kick in pants!

Or they lose tonight and leave tournament with 3 losses in a row after a quarterfinal slaughter.lol

Not that Finland deserved anything from this game, but it truly tells something about the quality of the referees when at 1 minute left they call Finland for too many men on the ice when they had pulled the goalie. Then when they realize the mistake they made, they still keep the faceoff in Finland's zone instead of taking it to centerice.

Anyway this was not the referees fault. Finland looks completely lost. I dunno if its because were missing our head coach or what, but there is no cohesion in the team. Well played Switzerland!
