I live in Ontario and I'm very grateful that our federal government is prioritizing saving lives and making sure our health care system is not overwhelm by omicron. Thank God I live in Canada and not the US! With that said I do agree that if a player is fully vaccinated and asymptomatic he should be eligible to play!

Doesn't this kind of contradict itself?

You're praising the government for their safety measures, but then say one of those measures (ie. their procedure when it comes to vaxxed and asymptomatic) shouldn't be in place.

Honestly if you’re not vaccinated by this point it’s your own problem, when does this end?

I would love if that were the case, but the unvaccinated are still part of society. They take up hospital beds, they spread it more, etc.

Viruses are not an individual issue. The sooner people understand that, the better.

if it is infecting a large portion of the team or a key position (like goaltending), by the time they are cleared to play the tournament would be over.

Isn't mandatory quarantine in Canada two weeks regardless? For those infected and those in the vicinity?

Woah hang on a second, how is it “antivaxx narrative” to think it’s ridiculous to penalize a team who seemingly did every single thing correct, including getting vaccinated, and still get the short end of the stick and needing to forfeit? I’m sure this is what most people who have a problem with it are saying but I could of course be wrong.
It is not an antivaxx narrative to think penalizing a team who did everything seemingly right had to forfeit a game.

Except that's not how viruses work.

You can spread it even if you are asymptomatic and vaccinated. The incubation period is WAY SHORTER though.

Most importantly, you can spread it to people who are NOT vaccinated.
The spread among asymptomatic vaccinated people is quite rare.

The NFL has shown this to be true:

NFL: Symptomatic players driving COVID spread

The NFL was also among the first organizations to prove Covid was airborne.

Their contact tracing has been phenomenal and invaluable.

A lot of people don't want to accept that (the same way a lot of people didn't want to accept Covid was airborne) so I doubt we ever see get to the point where we accept that (especially for events in Canada).

The narrative that the vaccinated can spread Covid is a faulty one. It's true in the same sense that a birth control pill isn't 100% effevtive, but nobody goes around saying "you still get pregnant on the pill".

As for the unvaccinated, they've basically elected to get Covid at this point and honestly shouldn't even be allowed in the tournament to begin with.

Canada's Covid rules, just too bad.
In the ideal scenario elsewhere, they let the team play without the positive players, or reschedule to a free day and retest everyone. If that's not possible in Canada, then too bad. Not the first time sport was hurt by Covid rules, likely not the last either.

Bottom line is that covid will never go away completely, so at one point countries need adjust but it all depends on the level of hospitalization! Right now the number of cases are spiking expeditiously even it omicron is milder you still have a lot of unvaccinated people who are at a much greater risk of complication. It's better to be safe then sorry, right now we need to be careful and not do anything foolish!

No it doesn't I still agree with all government measures, Im just telling you my PERSONAL OPINION that if a player is fully vaccinated and asymptomatic he should be able to play. But at the same time I agree with all government health measures. Thank you!

Thank you for the info!

I think it was a good tactic to select 1-0 loss, playing with no proper goalie might have meant loss with larger margin

Yes but let’s remember all these players and fans in the building are fully vaccinated, so what is the problem? The unvaccinated survival rate is still very high and most cases are this new variant that’s very mild from reports. The hospitals were over capacity before this pandemic even started
But now its much worst because of Covid!
