A lot of reasons Canada lost. Missing the net was an issue for certain guys the entire time (Cowan), never having set lines (coaching), not having any sustained pressure until the second half of the QF, and not playing our best players nearly enough (Rehkopf was barely used, Celebrini needed more ice time).

Can't be understated how unhelpful the defensemen were though. I think Luneau and Molendyk were sorely missed.

Canada should be able to overcome a few top guys not being there. (Bedard, Fantili, Korchinski, and the injuries to Luneau and Molendyk) Not sure about the roster construction, but was a down year for sure.

I am sure lots of Canadian fans will come here and use the "If we had" excuse. But that's an excuse. They are almost all NHL drafted, many in the 1st round. Should have no excuses not to medal.

Would you miss Finland, Sweden, Czech Republic and Latvia at the same time more?
Probably Sweden and CR. Latvia and Finland don’t carry the same weight in terms of powerhouses. Everyone knows for the most part it’s Canada, US, Russia, Sweden and Czechs and then some other team on a magical run.

This has to be the worst Canadian team to ever play in the tournament lol

On a side note I can't wait for the tournament to return to North America, these times make watching pretty much impossible as somebody who works nights.
I hear ya. Nightshift worker myself, and I'm showing up to work pretty exhausted these days trying to boxscore watch these games.

Poitras was there and was quite underwhelming for most of it

I mean, Poitras played and had a rough tournament too.

Unintentionally funny.

Pretty bold assumption. one other thing….we did have Poitras but in hindsight I kind of wish we didnt. He was probably the biggest disappointment in my opinion

Oops, I didn't even know he was there lol.
Thats embarrassing but moreso for him lol

Giving up the game winner with 11 seconds left, oooooooooof Canada
I hope all the anthems tonight are
Oooooooof Canada!!!, we watched them score on the lol

As disappointing as it was, I can't fathom the brutal takes we are going to hear from Americans and other Canada detractors about how this isn't Canada's game anymore. Lol.

Canada has won 3 of the last 4 WJC's and have 5+ top line eligible players in the show (the Americans have one). Not to mention the 6-2 thrashing of the US last year. Get out of here with your garbage takes.

The Canada goalie was fine but it seems Canada often has a guy “good enough” assuming the rest of the team dominates and rarely guy who himself is the dominant difference maker that steals games. At least since their last five straight run in the late aughts.

was yager benched, or hurt?:dunno:
No, he played on the 4th line, he hit the iron with a good shot with 9 minutes left in the game. Talking about Yager, I think what killed Canada in this tournament is when they took off Celebrini from Yager's line. They found good chemistry in the first couple of games together. Celebrini moved up on the first line with Dumais to get him started but Dumais did not do anything 5 on 5 the whole tournament.

Well you certainly tore down that strawmen.

There is something to Canada being not that great when the tournament is in Europe, though. I think that’s a reasonable take given the results in the modern era of hockey (post-2010)

Meh, they said that about the Olympics too until Sochi but it was really more about small sample sizes.

For being the oldest player in the tournament (Jordan Dumais, already 20) he really showed why he was not valued from an NHL draft standpoint.
Easily the biggest disappointment for team Canada. Dumais did not do anything 5 on 5 and once Celebrini was put with him against Sweden, he disappeared with Dumais.
