You can always tell when a Canadian team is a dud, it’s most obvious when they tend to concede the first goal of the game. I suppose we were due for a QF exit, but I won’t lie the three peat would have been nice.

I take solace knowing that just having Connor Bedard on this team we’d have gone undefeated. But congrats to the Czechs.

The only thing worse than "Things would be different if Player X was here" is "Things would be different if Team X was here".

Who cares?

They aren't there, there are enough teams left to host a tournament.

It's certainly a better tournament missing Team X than it would be missing Team W, V, Y and Z which is what would happen if Team X was here.

You want to put an asterisk next to it? Ok, fill your boots.

Meanwhile everyone else gets on with their lives and watches the hockey.

If you care about the integrity of the tournament, you should care.

If you don’t, then I guess you wouldn’t.

I honestly didn’t mean for any backhanded comment, this is a hockey forum I think majority of people would agree that any team for that matter having a generational player like Bedard on it would likely go undefeated. Especially the top teams. It’s just a testament to how good he is.

I'm relatively new to following junior hockey, so just curious........I've read people advocating that Canada follow the U.S. model a few times. What does this mean?

Politics aside it would be nice to see Russia just because they have some phenomenal guys drafted in the last 2-3 years.

Michkov, Demidov, But, Miroschnichenko, Yurov, Dolzhenkov, Perevalov, Trikozov, etc at F.

Simashev, Gulyayev, Orlov, Silayev on D.

Would be an amazing group. I think they’d win the tournament tbh. Michkov would be by far the best player in the tournament.

If Russia was in this tournament this Canadian team shouldn't even be considered a medal contender pre-tournament, never mind the Gold three-peat nonsense.

I mean, Malkin and Ovechkin lost.

We’ll never know.

It’s very convenient though for Russians to thump their chests without any on-ice performance to support it.

I do find any attempt to dismiss the tournament as not best on best because Russia is out funny. No because there isn’t truth to it…but because it just makes me realize that Canada couldn’t even medal in a tournament where one of the best teams wasn’t allowed to play.

to be fair if he was from basically any other country Michkov would be in the NHL already anyways
