Congratulations to Canada but shame on those canadian fans that booed Ovechkin when he was going to receive his trophies... Where's the "class" in that? I just wonder... :shakehead :shakehead :shakehead

He brought it on himself. He doesn't showboat, the crowd wouldn't have treated him like that.

He also made himself a target on the ice by his actions, every Canadian player was well aware when he was on the ice and they made sure they finished their checks - with extra enthusiasm.

I bet he regrets doing that now.
Perhaps he learned a humbling lesson???

You KNOW its true. He is extremely talented and strong, i haven't seen a goalie move as well as he does since seeing Lethonen back in 2002.

He's a 1st round draft pick in 2005 for sure. mark my words.

Huh? Glass was selected in like the 4th round in 2004 by Ottawa

Good tournament, I wish I had seen more Team Russia games on TV since this last game didn't really have any purpose for me.

But hey, see you all during the U18s, I'm taking a vacation from these forums until then.

Or hopefully the Pens simply aquire a sniper of their own. :dunno:

naaaah, never underestimate the ability to insert a cheap shot at the Pens (and because they intelligently let Jagr walk instead of vastly overpaying him their supposed inability to keep any player) within a post on almost any subject . . .

Congrats to all Canadians (expet me :D)

Great performeance, you did not steal it, you truelly deserved this medal and this perfect record...Huraaaaaaay to Canada!!

Canada only won because their Goaltender Jeff Glass is probably the BEST under 20 goalie in the world right now... put anyone else in there and Russia would of win!

Actually, it might have more to do with the fact that Russia had maybe 2 even-strength shots the entire game. Oh, and the fact that Russia's captain quit half-way through. What a leader! :amazed:

Man, we pwned em good. It feels good to beat such a hated team. They are pesky, they are cheap, they are very very very cocky, they hack, they wack, they spear, the spit, the mouth off, the mouth off at the fans, the rub it in. They do everything that deserves for them to be hated. They do everything to label themselves, the hated team.

6-1 pouding? Awesome. It should have been 8-1. THe game wasnt even close. Russia sucked bad this game.

McGuire said it right. Russians portrait themselves very poorly. Canadian players knew it. USA asked the Canadians , beggin em to beat those cocky Russians.

Way ta go Canada.

GO CANADA GOGOGOGOGO!!!

Ovechkin deserved the punishement he got today. Just cant wait til the NHL.

I just replied to someone else who said this and I'll say it again...

Ovechkin brought that on himself.
If he showed class he would have been shown class.

So true,I mean why should we respect him If he Is not respecting us??

The Russian goalies sure did not help their team today. A few of those goals should have been blocked. Don't know if they were nervous or just lacked the skill.

Great Game!!!!!

What was the all-star team? I know Bergeron was tournament MVP. :D

..

Nothing wrong with booing a player but booing a national anthem is another story.

full game recap...

ovechkin can't take the heat and leaves his team in the midst of the battle just like a good captain should do. the canadians roll four lines that constantly swarm the russian defense like they never have been before.

the one position that mr ovechkin says the team lacked in (goalie) was a bright spot today as glass outperforms both russian netminders showing excellent agility in the opening 5 minutes on a 5 on 3.

canada wins 6 to 1 on a dominating performance.

at the beginning of this tournament i predicted that richards would lay a hit on ovechkin to get the team into it and take ovechkin out of the game. i was kind of right and wrong on the prediction. richards didn't really get him with a good hit but ovechkin (lacking heart possibly) takes himself out of the game with what has been described as a 'sore shoulder'. anyone else think this guy just may be the vince carter of hockey?

Wasn't he injured earlier in the game? Ever thought thats why he went into back to the locker room? Lets have a little class in this thread if possible.

You are talking about Class?...and on behalf of Ovechkin? Boy, that's a good one!

True champions play with broken arm like Kevin Lowe, with broken ribs like Saku Koivu, with broken leg like Davy Ellot.

They do not show boat and rub salt into the wounds of their opponents then two days later make a public display of a sore shoulder to make sure that the whole world sees his excuse for quitting and then walks out on his team. What a SHAMEFUL DISPLAY for himself, for his teammates and for his country.

This OVECHKIN is nothing more than a CLASSIC CASE OF A PRIMADONNA QUITTER!!!

This is the guy who wants to be like Owen Nolan??!!?? Gimme a break! He was a whining little brat of a boy back when he was flopping around on the ice when he was 16 and he has not grown up one little bit!! The best thing for him at this time is a big slice of humble pie and he just got a little taste of it. He's gonna have to do a lot of growing up if he wants to be a man.

THIS is why I would take Malkin over this quitter any time!

I think saluting the fans who were booing him and giving them the thumbs-up qualifies as respect, doesn't it? As opposed to some of the posts on this thread...

Russia deservers every booing they got.

I wonder if anyone will question Coach Sutter's decision's for keeping and cutting certain players!!! WAY TO GO CANADA!! Poor Ovechkin and Malkin, didn't see to much showboating from them tonight!!

See, this is what I find hilarious. He gets insulted because a few years ago he got cross-checked in the back but immediately came back on for the powerplay, and then gets insulted now because he went to the dressing room for an injury in a blowout game.

You are totally pathetic. What the fans do, has nothing to do with team Canada themselve. Fans are allowed to boo any player on the ice. They are allowed to taunt other players. They payed the money to be there, I would boo Ovechkin for the classless ***** he gave to the American players and fans.

How bout Anson Carter? He was booed by Russian fans in Russia. Booed him because of his skin color.

and don't forget the banana throwing! a countries fans should have no representation of a countries national team/program

See, that's why Mcguire should be ashamed of himself. This is a prime example of the effect this balding propaganda machine can have on fragile young minds.

Perhaps because discussion boards are about opinions? How about contemplating that for a while.
Once again, I compliment you and respect your opinion. Starved for coverage in this tournament to the ESPN games and radio coverage I offer my opinion. This tournament was ultimately decided by the quality of the defensemen a country could list on their lineup sheet. There wasn't a single country that could even come close to Canada's lineup on defense.

This was not a goalie tournament, maybe Schwartz was the most valuable goalie. Don't know if he was best, but seemed to be the most valuable. The rest struggled when tested. Obviously Glass did well on paper, but again the names on defense and forwards with roles like Dixon, and committment by the other Canadian forwards made him look great.

For offensive talent, again the Canadians get the nod. The Russians had their stars, but could not roll even three lines, mostly played two. The Canadians matched well with Carter, Bergeron and Crosby. Who could come close to that?

The USA tried to counter with speed and skill. They were undersized and weak on defense. Chemistry did not seem right in any game I watched. To much individual effort. End story no hope to defend the gold, and no medal. They played well against the Czechs in both games, but would have no chance against Canada.

There were some very talented young players in this tournament, but the team assembled by Canada (credit Suter) was unstoppable. Congratulations to Team Canada, TEAM, and coach Suter. You deserved to dominate this tournament and win the gold. I wish all the prospects and participents well.
