He played 2 periods.

He finished the tourney +6.
Malkin broke even.

There will be plenty of other threads over the coming months and years to get into this can of worms . . . give it a rest in this one.

....... and Congrats to Canada on a well deserved win.

are there any box scores for tonights game?

sports.yahoo.com usually has box scores for NHL games, but after a brief search (about ten seconds lol) I couldn't find one for the Juniors.

Well, you wouldn't believe the 'compliments' that got thrown at me after the World Cup of Hockey final here in Toronto. To honour Team Finland's great run, I decided to walk through downtown Toronto and the celebrating crowd to my flat, wearing Team Finland jersey and with a big flag. It took 45 mins. and I have never been insulted so many times in my life before. Great fans, ganging up on a lone fan of the other team. I was a bit surprised, because Team Canada had won after all.

However, I still wouldn't say that Canadian hockey fans are the scum of the earth or anything like that, because there are lots of classy, intelligent and polite people as well. Some of them here on the boards.

That's very unfortunate...not overly surprising, but unfortunate....but as is pretty obvious on these boards as well is that people usually respond pretty emotionally at first, without thinking things through. Odds are people thought you were trying to somehow take away from Canada's victory by flying your Finnish flag following a Canadian victory...when NHL teams play against Toronto, the same behaviour can be directed at opposing teams' fans, even though we're all Canadian...that's just the way it goes...I would say that it isn't unique behaviour to Canada either...and it probably is no better or worse than many other countries...

Bottom line is that Canadians will always be very proud and very passionate...and it is upon that basis that they claim to be the best fans in the world...any claim to being perfect fans of course is probably not correct...

Canada did what they had to do: play tough. Phaneuf was trult amazing throughout the whole tournament, and Calgary is one lucky team to have him. I agree with Porn*, I was surprised that it was a blowout.

I can't believe Ovenchicken was crying. Pffft... I'm changing my title back to what it rightfully should be.

The fact you weren't 'physically' attacked should be a compliment to the Canadian fans, if you were to walk down a street in many countries after their national sport was played wearing an opposition jersey, I'd fear for your life :)

The thought occurred to me after one of the riot cops said 'You walking around here tonight with that shirt on, you got my respect' :D

There were a couple close calls, but nothing serious. Would do it again though, it came straight from the heart.

His reaction to the boos after the game was anythng but a protest.

I wasn't talking about his behaviour after the game, I'm talking about the way he will carry himself going forward, in Russia, in the NHL, whereever...Ovechkin will play for Russia many times in the future at other tournaments and events and he will see plenty of North American fans, as well as plenty of North American teams who will think that the best way to defend against him is to be very physical with him...how he responds to that will determine just how much "classless" booing he will receive in the future...I have a hard time believing that he would have been booed at all if not for his previous incidents...I have no problem with his behaviour as long as he's able to accept the consequences...being booed is a consequence...

Who made the Allstar team?

Bergeron, Ovechkin, Phaneuf and Schwarz got awards. Who was on the team?

Bergs got MVP and top scorer, Ovechicken got top forward, Phaneuf top D, and Schwarz top G. WHAT HAPPENED WITH CROSBY? I thought the way he was hyped, he was gonna in top forward, d AND goalie. j/k

But whatever, TSN talked about Getzlaf just being edged out so would the allstar team be Getzlaf, Ovech, Bergeron Phaneuf, Schwarz and one other d????

Jeff Carter was great from what I've read.

Malkin cried too. Many people do cry when they lose. :teach:

An awesome performance. Men playing boys, really, and a second completely dominating performance by Canada during a lockout year. A coincidence? I think not. I'm afraid it would be like this most years if Canada could bring its best every time.

Congratulations to Canada...

truly a team to remember. Special.

7 goals against World class competition over 6 games.

That says it all.

Two final notes. One, the Russians will be good next year and are the favorites in my opinion.

2nd...does it bother anyone that Ovechkin didn't look that injured, and was sent to the dressing room by the coaches if he wasn't willing to play?

I'm just wondering if other people saw this. I hope I am wrong, but it sure looks like he quit.

Canada gets gold. The World gets great hockey overall. God is great. Amen

Like I said, I still have respect for Canadian hockey fans. I wasn't even angry at them back then, just surprised. But with stuff like that, it's better to let it go in one ear and out the other.

Russia returns 10 players from this year's team for next year, although Ovechkin will not be one of them. Finland returns essentially their entire team, including goaltender Tuuka Rask, who didn't impress me that much against Canada but he was solid in the tournament. I think both of these teams will be strong. I'm almost shocked about what has happened to Sweden.

Canada only returns 2 players, and Crosby's return is basically dependent on whether there will be NHL hockey next year...so we should savour this victory and get ready for Vancouver next year...hopefully there will be a new wave of juniors ready to defend the title.

I'm very surprised to hear that... :amazed: . I had number of friends who came down to Toronto for WC. We were walking from their hotel (Harbour ..)to ACC, and they were wearing russian jerseys. But to make more fun they were screaming their lungs out with "GO RUSSIA!! " GO FOR THE GOLD!! ". And guess what: nobody not just said a word to them, but people, wearing canadian jerseys were smiling and looked very friendly. And this took place BEFORE the game CAN-RUS. At ACC ther was a huge amount of russian fans, wearing russian jerseys and waving russian flags and to be honest, they were not at their best behavoir, but again: nobody said anything insulting to them or even objected ...so, that's why I'm surprised at your story.. :dunno:

Well I'm glad you were able to survive and show some class...it's a difficult thing to do to show class when you're being shown none...but you're a better person for it, I would think...besides, we can't have you thinking that Canadian fans are all great, now can we? ;)

What a great effort. This team Canada was the best that I can ever remember. It all started with Brent Sutter. What an awesome job he has done. That Bergeron goal was something else. Great play by Phaneuf, Crosby, Perry and Bergeron all at the same time. That goal really exemplified the way Canada played in that tournament.

It is a gold medal game. If a player like Ovechkin, who is supposed to be among the next generation of NHL superstars, cannot play through the pain in a championship game, he will never survive a long career in the NHL, especially come playoff time. None of the hits Ovechkin took tonight were really *that* hard, and he leaves a championship game.

Do you know exactly what his injury is? I think not. What if he is out there with a separated shoulder(I head it was a shoulder injury)? You are making it sound like he got a little scratch and couldnt take it.

I loved the game, but I must say I certainly appreciated a short sequence in the first where Crosby checked Ovechkin off the puck and forced him offside, then Ovechkin came back later and checked Crosby into the boards and also took on Bergeron as well. These are the future stars of hockey and I respect all of them for mixing it up and playing a hard nosed, clean game when called for, as opposed to floating and waiting for the next scoring chance...Ovechkin is very talented and I look forward to seeing more of him as he gets better.
