Not sure how he'll ever be in the NHL...but let's correct a mistake somehow and go get Dufour.
Frankly, I would trade Roy even up for Dufour. I know that such a proposal is pure heresy here, but to this observer, Dufour is making the NHL well before Roy and once there, will have a far more impactful career. Assuming, of course, that Roy even makes the NHL.

Luke Hughes might be as good as his older brothers.
Impressive family

The cool part about opinions....they are often times wrong. Dufour is a year older, has played over 200 games in the Q while Roy just turned 19. Let's compare after this upcoming season.

No question. And on these types of forums, opinions, whether right or wrong, all cost the same.
And I respect all opinions!
We are all fans and we all have passion but friendly dialogue makes this worthwhile.

That would be great. But I highly doubt Isles would be interested in moving one of their best prospects.
Both players drafted around the same time one year apart.
Like I said earlier Roy is a year younger....that's huge at this age.

No question. But in my opinion if Dufour adds half a step in speed he will be a star in the NHL and if Roy adds a half a step, he may make the NHL.

Neither of these players appear to be good prospects
Kapanen could be a 4th liner or an AHL player... Nurmi is a double overager from Finland... He moves well and all but the pick is weird. They probably hope hes an AHL player quickly.

What do you think Roy will look like in two years? Thats like comparing Caufield and Suzuki as players. A lot can happen in two years.

It's all about how we believe in him. And what we can get trade for him. Harris? Mysak? Mailloux? Ylonen who is not a prospect...but it's all about what we are willing to give vs what the Isles think of our prospects vs Dufour.

Unless Roy adds a level of snap, speed and urgency to his game, I don't see him developing into anything more than a fringe NHLer. At best, he'll be a poor man's Toffoli. And how did that turn out for the Flames? There have been many QMJHL high scorers: Patrice Lefevre; Patrick Emond; Norm Dupont; Sylvain Locas; who failed to make or have any impact at the NHL level. Roy doesn't pass the eye test. Against elite competition, he's a half a step too slow. At the NHL level, he'll be a full step too slow and he won't be able to consistently create the time and space that will allow him to use his elite hand skills. I hope I'm wrong. But I think he has journeyman written all over him.

Now Dufour... that is another case entirely. If this kid ever gain's the half step that I referred to, he will be a force in the NHL. He passes the eye test and has been one of Team Canada's more impressive players. His combination of size, aggressiveness and straight line speed has intimidated both the Latvian and Slovakian defencemen. I'm interested to see if he will be as effective when (if) he plays against the U.S. who, in general, have a much quicker team than the Canadians. That will be the acid test. However, going forward, if he gets faster, Dufour will be dangerous. How in heck did our scouts miss out on him?

I don't think a prospect-for-prospect trade will do it, either. If you want one of their best prospects, you'll have to give them a significant roster player.

For Ylonen, I'd rather hold onto a 22-year old player who has put up 53 pts in 81 games in the AHL and has looked good in the NHL in a minimal role for 14 games and isn't that far off from becoming a regular in the NHL.

MAYBE at the TDL, if Isles are in a good spot and ready to make a deep playoff run, they might be more open to including Dufour in a deal they feel will give them a real shot.

None of the examples you mentionned actually lead the league in points at their age, in fact, most of them werent even top 10 in points or top on their teams.

Also, Roy is a half step behind and hes somehow 2nd in points in the whole tournament. Nothing indicates hed be a "poor-mans" Toffoli and acting like Toffoli is a bad player is quite the take.

Looks like nobody watched Finland games?

0 talk about Nurmi & Kapanen
Watched the last one. Not much to say about both players, Nurmi looks like a late round pick, makes good short passes in transition, but will blunder once in a while, defensivey correct nore more. Kapanen plays well without the puck, good defensively, but cant generate anything offensively, nothing different than his previous showings.

If I played with Bedard and McTavish I'd probably be in the top 10 in scoring and I'm almost 80.

If statistics are the key indicator, are your saying Roy is a better prospect than Bedard? Cooley? Hughes? I use my eyes and base my judgments on what I see on the ice and not what I read on the game's statistical reports. As for Patrice Lefevre; Patrick Emond; Norm Dupont and Sylvain Locas, they are all top ten in QMJHL all-time scorers. Their glossy statistics didn't help them at the next level as they had to pay to see an NHL game just like the rest of us mortals.

You seem to ignore age in your evaluation.

You also seem to ignore Roy had two points without CB/MM and that all his points are at ES.

You can take solace in Roy's statistics against Latvia and a diminished Slovakian team. Fine, I don't. When I see him drive the play against superior competition, I will join 'we got a steal in the 5th round' club. Until then, Roy projects as no more than journeyman to this observer.

In re-draft 2021 right now, he is a already a late 1st round pick to me. In few years... we can talk him about a top 10 pick in that draft, this guy produce more than QMJHL players picking in 1st round in that draft. That's a very big steal... more than Cole Caufield... grab a 1st round talent in 5th round, that's huge. Like Sean Farrell, two very good prospect with high potential.

Until he does it at the NHL it doesn't mean much. He's looking promising and developing nicely but he definitely does need to improve his skating to be a force in the NHL. Just my take
