I mean plenty of prospects who decided to go had long seasons. Jiricek is going just a few months later after a bad injury. Demek had a long season through the memorial cup and was also dealing with an injury and is going for Slovakia.
I don’t blame him for choosing to focus on the upcoming season though

Demek didn't go from end of season to combine to draft to development camp.

Between the Memorial Cup and the WJC, he's had time to rest, recuperate, and prepare.

Jiricek is one of the few 2022 draftees who will go. Most of them have opted out because their focus is rookie and main camps.

That's the price you pay when the tournament is in the middle of August and so close to camps. A lot of the top names opt out.

From Mesar's point of view I think his initial goal will be to have a strong enough training camp that Habs decide to send him to AHL instead of OHL. Added bonus that his childhood friend will play nearby also (which won't be the case if he goes to OHL).

I am curious about Rohrer. Did he opt out or maybe an injury? Maybe one he sustained at development camp?

Haven't read anything on the actual reason, Marco Kasper also isn't going. Maybe he felt that now that's he drafted, might as well focus on his career and not some junior tournament in the middle of summer (that's what I'd do).

So now we know Habs will have

- Kapanen
- Nurmi
- Mysak
Well, something is better than nothing!

I got the same vibes, Mesar will push hard to make the AHL right away.

Could even rent one apartment with Slaf and stay together the entire year even if one is in the NHL and one is in the AHL.

Lots of players have their bulk up periods over the summer. The habs probably said too many of their smaller players to prioritize the gym, and then go to the WJC at Christmas.

To add to that: these periods are more important around 18 years old vs. around 20 years old (Mysak) - because at that point that work is more done. So it makes sense for the habs to tell Mysak to go enjoy it, while telling Mesar-Rohrer to go bulk up. Now it varies on a per player basis, Kidney for example, still needs a lot of gym work...

saw this posted on the international tournaments forum. Riley Kidney’s cousin saying that Riley got the call that he made the team.

Thought I would share that I follow Pat Mayo on Twitter who is a golf handicapper. He tweeted last night that he just got word his cousin made the Canadian World JR’s team. His cousin is Riley Kidney Habs second rounder. -@RBG1488

According to Mesar, Habs gave him 3 possibilities AHL, OHL and, apparently, Sweden…

USA will have a srimmage today. As far as I've seen, there is no stream.

Tuch at 3LW for Team White
Biondi at 3RW for Team Blue
Hutson at 2LD for Team Blue

Not surprised to see Biondi playing his linemate at UMD.

Will be hard for any of the 3 Hab prospects to make the roster but hopefully all have strong camps to make the decision hard. Granted either one of Biondi/Tuch can play on the 4th line or be a solid 13th F to have. Hutson there's some tough comp at LD, but don't know if they would move any to RD to say keep Hutson even if it's just as a PP specialist.

If Hutson doesn't make it, he should be a lock for December's.
