As this tournament looks poised to kick into full gear it is that much more annoying that the Leafs, Rangers and Devils still decided to hold out their players. The much talked about Jan 13th start date doesn't look like it has a hope in hell of being reality. Is what it is I suppose all the teams are still extremely strong and will be awesome hockey.

The sole reason for holding players out is preventing your players from getting injured or sick before or during a season. If I was an NHL team I'd have my players on a strictly distanced and locked down offseason approach. It used to be just standard injuries leading to hold outs but now it's the risk of sending players into a COVID-infested situation that the team and player have no control over.

Whether the season starts in January or not, teams shouldn't be exposing their most valuable young assets to risks like this:

Sources: Jags RB Armstead still battling virus

COVID is more of a reason to hold players out than regular injury precautions.

Cheers to the Devils, Leafs, and Rangers for making the right decision for their athletes and their franchise.

Lots of guys are already skating on their own though. I'd trust the bubble to keep a 19 year old safe before I'd trust him to make the right decision.

Very grateful Dach wanted to come so badly. I'm no Hawks fan but I absolutely love his game and this says a lot about his character. You guys in Chicago are lucky to have him.

So... Russia lost nothing???

You also haven't mentioned that other countries were playing the whole year while most of Canada wasn't. Or that Canada's camp was massively affected by its own Covid lockdown that had the players confined to their rooms for two weeks. Their Call Of Duty game should be in peak form, but the hockey part is going to be a bit of a rust fest at the beginning.
The call of duty comment was awesome!

Canada is the favorite for sure, they are every year. Every country is battling something. I don't see how home ice in an empty arena is an advantage personally. I do see how having 20 first rounders is.

Canada is in the weaker pool so do have a chance to shake some rust off!

I've maintained for awhile that there are 5 nations that can win gold and it will not surprise me. Only shocks would be if the Czechs, Germans, Slovaks, Austrians or Swiss win GOLD. Otherwise, Canada is the best but if Finland wins this, I won't be shocked at all. Askarov helping a very good Russian team win a gold, not shocking. The US boys gelling behind Knight, not shocking. The Swedes have a great roster (I'm looking for big things from Broberg as an Oil fan).

Big 5!

I'm not sure who they flew with.. my guess is the Swiss?

I have to say.. I'm sure it saved money but why on earth didn't the federations just fly their own teams individually? eliminate all doubt.

I get it saves money to split a flight 3 ways (Sweden/Finland/Russia and Czech/Slovak/Austria) but you are risking 3 teams going down by saving the money.

Also, make sure the plane can handle luggage.

My point? Whoever is in charge of booking flights is not good at their job.lol

Yeah, this is absolutely baffling to me. Hockey Canada was apparently in charge of coordinating, and these teams apparently brought up concerns months ago. I'm surprised this hasn't gotten more attention from the media (though maybe it has outside of Canada). Someone should be held accountable.

I can't sleep because I'm so worried about Sweden's unbeaten Round Robin record being tarnished because of Covid. :help:

I can't help but feel every sports event being held during covid times, especially ones with rules and regulations similar to the ones implemented here, will have a big asterisk beside them. Rightly or wrongly. That being said, I'll obviously be watching.

Anyone know about the dressing room situation? Does every team have it's own room for the tourney? Are there enough rooms like that at Rogers Place?

I can almost guarantee there isn't 10 dressing rooms that are going to be used. Once the tournament starts they will likely share dressing rooms. It is a bubble and nobody in the bubble will have covid. I would assume that the teams following a current game would have different dressing rooms though.

Don’t worry, man. Their doctor’s got the prescription for some big wins!
Sweden spent 10 year building the GREATEST sports record in history and you think it's funny?

10 years of paying for a limo, BUYING (not renting) a tux, and blowing all their money to impress a girl who went home with someone else, and you make JOKES!!!!

You SELFISH Bastard !!!! :sarcasm: :mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

I doubt it. I am sure they will just clean and fumigate after every game - like they do with airplanes.
