I have no idea why they thought flying in 3 teams in a single plane was a good idea. Just braindead decision making from HC/IIHF. They should have had everyone in the bubble two weeks ago and then had teams run their camps in Alberta after being being cleared.

This World Juniors is going to be VERY expensive with very little money coming in. The countries should have come here on their own / on their own nickel.

Could have flown in 1 month early. Doesn’t matter 1 negative test even a false positive and your out.
I'm sure there were a lot of empty hotels in Edmonton. Like you said, come early, quarantine, and then there wouldn't be an issue.

How early can you come though? All these European teams have kids playing pro over there. If you wanted a really diluted product with a lot of the pro kids missing this could have been a solution but not if you want a high quality tourney

That's not how things operate. HC/IIHF are the hosts, hence the onus is on them to run a professional tournament. This includes adequate and timely transportation.
Sure Covid is making things difficult, but chartering a 737 for 3 teams is just flat out amateur hour. One positive test and that entire plane is compromised. The tournament is done.

With Covid countries should be responsible for themselves. Reach into your pocket and get your players to Edmonton (safely) on your own nickel. Otherwise, no complaining - especially in a year when there are no tickets being sold.

After all, Hockey Canada's not going to go broke flying 6 teams on 6 different exclusive flights - if they are, in fact, responsible for the costs.

Coulda, shoulda, woulda. That's not how it works in the real world. If you make teams pay themselves, good luck having a tourney.
It you take on the responsibly of hosting a tourney, you do it professionally.
If Covid is causing you to bleed money, cancel it. If you're gonna cut corners, do it responsibly.
Throwing 3 teams on a single row plane for a transatlantic flight in the middle of a Covid outbreak is nuts.

If you're going to send your players to represent your country (especially during a pandemic), reach in your pocket.

I agree with your last sentence.

No federation is gonna reach into its pockets to send a team to a tournament where the home team receives the vast majority of revenue. They're losing money as it is. This is why the onus is always on the host/IIHf to provide transportation.

Cmon, this isn't a hockey video game. This is the real world. This is business.
If you can't do this adequately, don't host the tournament,

I think swedish teams are paying about 30 000 dollars per player they send. Hilarious that you have to pay for your players participation. Considering the crappy standards at the wjc that fee is robbery. At least Canada can point to covid now when teams have to change outdoors...

Why couldn't IIHF just postpone WJC until after the season? Or cancel...

We can agree to disagree.

They could suffer lifelong complications. They could spread it to others who aren't in elite shape. Those people could die or suffer lifelong complications.

Wanting to overlook global health and safety for a higher level of hockey entertainment borders among the most ghoulish takes.
That's fair but no one is forcing them to come.

Plus, a lot of these kids wouldn't quarantine over Christmas and New Year if they weren't at the WJR's (they'd probably be out partying) so... they are probably far safer in the bubble.

If you think my opinion on that issue is based on entertainment, you clearly haven’t read what I had to say.
