Good. He's not making the team this year. I'd rather him continue to develop where he's comfortable getting big minutes. It's not like he's playing at SKA or something.

Well hopefully this settles it. When do team camps start in KHL? Should be in a week or two, no?

When does their season end? Any chance we see him at the end of the year in the AHL? How would that effect his contract status? (If it does at all)

I believe it normally ends at the end of February, and the playoffs begin in that last week of the month or the beginning of March.

I believe that his contract lasts through the duration of the KHL calendar year, so it should end in April. I think he should be able to buy out those last few months if his team is eliminated.

His contract ends on April 30th. I remember Mittelstadt signing his ELC after the NCAA season was over and it did not slide because of that. I think that could apply to Kravtsov as well. It's better to just sign him to an ELC during the 2019 off-season

Eh, if he's on the team for 40+ games, it counts as an accrued season, meaning it brings him to UFA status at age 25. PS: Want to know the total number of players who played in the NHL at age 18 straight out of the draft?

Quite a few bums on that list

Pre-season tournaments start in the first week of August

Yup. Just saw that other KHL teams already started to announce opening of camps.

Tractor site also has an interview with incoming new head coach German Titov. He said that KHL camps are 1.5 months before the start of the regular season so it is either this week or next. Also one of the QA was about Kravtsov and counting on his continuing development in the new season.

That's hilarious. The KHL is like a collection of feudal lords, just disregarding the salary cap and using whatever money and influence they have to keep their teams together. I kind of wish the NHL took a more rigid stance on abuse of the salary cap, because the methods of circumventing the cap such as LTIR, although clever, have grown pretty tired, and it would make the league much more entertaining from a roster-building standpoint to see GMs scrambling every summer to maintain their rosters as developing players grow into larger contracts.

I would have liked him in the AHL but I'm not upset he is staying in the KHL

Our Russian contingent will come over next summer

Couldn't they sign him May 1 for his contract to be effective for the 2019 season then he sign an ATO with Hartford?

Might be too many games to play, or if Hartford makes the playoffs but I dont think he makes the WC roster for Russia unless he has a crazy season.

I don't think there was really a wrong decision here...would have been cool to see him at traverse city but don't have anything negative to say about him spending the year in the KHL. now i just hope he earns himself a decent amount of ice time there.

Yes.

They can do exactly that. Sign his ELC to start in the 2019-2020 season, and then an ATO for Hartford.

Yes, they can. He just can't play in the NHL. The 9-game slide doesn't count if the contract is signed after the deadline which is Kravtsov’s case would happen.

An entry level contract to start in 2019-20 with an ATO for the 2018-19 AHL season, would make his ELC slide eligible since he'll be 19 as of September 15th of the year he signs his contract

He will. He's not on a powerhouse team so PT won't be an issue.

With ATO's is there a games limit? If his team misses the playoffs we could potentially see him in AHL for couple months.

Not sure if there's a game limit. This is what I could find.

Professional tryout

A Professional tryout (PTO) is found in the AHL and NHL. In the AHL, this type of contract is limited to 25 games. Teams may sign players to multiple PTOs at any time during the season, provided that after the completion of the PTO the player shall have the right to sign a regular AHL contract or PTO with another AHL team.
During the National Hockey League (NHL) preseason, veteran players who tryout for a team sign a PTO.
Amateur tryout

An Amateur tryout (ATO) is found in the NHL, the AHL, and the ECHL. This type of contract is for players who are leaving college and attempting to turn professional, are done with college, or are graduating from the junior leagues. An ATO is a very common practice near the end of the professional seasons as they go deeper into the year than college or junior schedules. In the NHL, an ATO may only be used for 1 day for emergency with no pay or compensation for skaters in accordance with Exhibit 17 of the NHL-NHLPA Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA). ATOs in the NHL are typically only used for goalies since, in practice, teams always retain more than the needed eighteen skaters on their NHL rosters, making it highly likely that any skater who becomes unavailable for a game on short notice can be replaced by another player who otherwise would have been a "healthy scratch".

Last year's best rookie of the league. Highest drafted Russian NHL prospect (who's still a prospect) playing in the K.

There will be a lot of eyes on him. The league wants to promote its young talents so if he does well then a spot on the National Team for Euro tournaments is not out of question.
