Can see the pros and cons for each, but I do ultimately think this is a good move - as long as he gets good minutes in the KHL.

He needs to continue to focus on skill development. I don’t think it would be beneficial to come over and have to focus on the small rink aspects & worry about not being competent enough defensively. Build confidence in your home country where you are comfortable...have a better shot to make the NYR next year.

Nutrition/training is going to be very important for Kravtsov but it’s not like that is super easy in the AHL...82 game pro grind is not the time when you can build muscle. Hopefully the NYR did what they could to set him up ok for this year, at the end of the season I’m sure he will come to NA and have a whole summer to train in the Ranger program.

Just an FYI, for people who want him to adjust to smaller rinks: a large portion of teams in the KHL actually play on rinks the same size as in North America.

And regarding the no of games: I have to look at the numbers but I don't think a lot of young players in the AHL play all the games with the 3-in-3 schedule they have.

I believe it normally ends at the end of February, and the playoffs begin in that last week of the month or the beginning of March.

I believe that his contract lasts through the duration of the KHL calendar year, so it should end in April. I think he should be able to buy out those last few months if his team is eliminated.

They would probably just let him walk at that point. They have to have come to the realization that he won't be singing another contract. Holding onto him so he can't go to an NHL team doesn't sound like something they would do based on what I've read of the relationship he has with the team

I dont have any problem him staying for another season, though I do hope he gets 2nd line minutes and PP time and not stuck on the 4th line playing 9 minutes.

Rangers have probably spoken to the team about that. He is their property now too, so they are allowed to have those meetings with his KHL team

The KHL isn’t a farm league. They don’t have to listen to the Rangers at all. They’ll keep doing what they think is best for the team whether that be playing Krafts on the 4th line or not starting Shestyorkin.

But it doesn't mean that those meetings haven't happened. I would bet there has been communication between the two management teams. They can't tell them what to do, but I'm sure the input is given to both sides

Would've preferred him in the AHL, but not a hill to die for either.
Honestly, him staying in the KHL is probably for the best. It's not like he dominated that league. He still has something to prove there and it's a very competitive league.

I'm sure that management gave him some things they want him to work on this upcoming season, be it weight training, nutrition, skills, etc., as well as access to any support/resources the organization can offer. Let the kid work on those things while still having the comfort of being in a familiar environment.

That's my take, anyway. Riding the bus in the AHL, trying to learn English, and adjusting to the NA game/rink size is a lot to ask from a kid that had little expectation of going in the first round less than a year ago.

I think, everythin is up to him. He'll have all the opportunities to earn top6 role on Traktor and maybe even more, like earning the place on Team Russia. At the very least, he's a lock for WJC team, and it's good. We're going to have a nice U20 team this coming season.

With Chytil, Kravtsov and possibly Lundkvist, Pajuniemi, Miller and Ragnarsson it might be worth it to fly to Vancouver to see a game or two.

one year in the KHL to play out his contract is probably good. Spend preparing for the transition while also hopefully getting top six icetime in the KHL and working on his skills.

- Top 6 minutes in the KHL
- Potential national team call-ups
- Staying closer to family for another year (remember, the kid is just 18)
- Not having to pay back 2/3 of his remaining year for the buy out

And add to that the history of success of Russian players going back to Russia after the draft compared to the limited success of Russian players coming over immediately, makes me feel this is the right call.

I'm good with this decision for him to finish out his KHL contract. Let him continue to develop his game closer to home, with less pressure and more familiarity. And I think having him, Shestyorkin, and Rykov coming over together will help all three of them immensely. It's a good bonding opportunity and a great way to start your NHL journey, IMO.

My only worry is that his decision to leave once his contract is up, might hurt his ice time this season. But hopefully Traktor recognizes both their opportunity to put forth their best lineup every night, and his opportunity to achieve almost every hockey players' dream of playing in the NHL. Either way, I'm very excited to see how he performs this year. My hopes are by this time next year, we're rating this kid as the best prospect we've had since our last Russian phenom.

He'll be with the Rangers.
Assuming he's not on the Ranger's of course.

Let's not get our hopes up. He's 18, about to turn 19. It's not that clear that he will be on the team. It's not as if he was dominating the AHL last season. Anyway, let's circle back to Kravtsov, before we go too far off course.

I just checked, and January 15th, Traktor plays in Bratislava. 40 minutes away. Sign me up! Now I need to convince my manager to send me to Helsinki when they play Jokerit on September ;)
