Those USNTDP guys always go to college for a couple years. Even Cooley hasn’t signed yet.

I could see Reinbacher or Sale signing immediately and going to the AHL.

Cooley is weighing the Coyotes at ASU vs the frozen tundra of Minny. At Minnesota, he may actually have a chance at winning something.

Would be wild if he forced them to walk away by just playing out his career in the NCAA and we got him.

Amazing talent.
That would be awesome for us but so devastating for the Coyotes that I can't support it.

The Coyotes are already devastated lol.
Indeed. I imagine if it gets to the point where he would walk, the Coyotes would simply trade his rights. I imagine that comes with the ability for his agent to discuss locations with interested teams. Then you have to pay a former 3OV. Getting him for free? Tough to see that happening. Now, if he has his heart set on Pittsburgh, maybe the Penguins can make an earlier bid for him. Given that he's damn near exactly what we need in the system, I would be fine with sending some assets. 14ov+Pickering+? Something like that. Maybe give Coyotes a roster player too.

I dont think a guy like Cooley will play out his 4 years in the NCAA. He was probably ready to play in the AHL/NHL already, so spending 4 years in college might be detrimental to his development.

And his pocket book. He wouldn't reach RFA until 25.

I'm guessing he'll sign his ELC once his college season is over, which I think if he joins the Coyotes late in the year will tick 1 year off his ELC. So, financially, he'll hit RFA the same time as he would if he signed today, without having to play in a Bladerunners.

as we get closer to draft day, i was looking at the latest ranking and trying to guess who will be there when we draft, and who i would love to see us pick. so I'm using "my nhl draft" it's more of a consensus rating. to narrow it down some more i limited it to picks 11 - 20. that would give us 3 picks ahead of us (if someone drops) and 6 picks behind us. from the way I've seen players ranked all over the place, I'm guessing that the players in that range are all very close. I'm also putting a premium on the pos. that seem to be the hardest to trade for (rd and c) with a rhc over a lhc. so that narrows it down to Reinacher rd, Danielson rhc, Yager rhc, Ritchie rhc, and sale. I know, I know, I said I wasn't going to pick a wing, but I have him rated a little higher than some. so that leaves me with 1 d, 1 winger and 3 centers. to narrow down the centers more I'm trusting jake's scouting report at the jr's so he gets dropped. Danielson seems the safest pick (and more of a sully type player that could quickly fill in a 3rd line center. but i also love Yager's upside. and with wanting the team to swing for the fence he would be my pick at center.
ps; things can still change.

Who will be our next Despres, Bennett, Esposito, Poulin, Pouliot, Maatta?
Or JT Miller Alexa kovalev or even Markus naslund. I believe all of them were picked 15th or 16th. So, you never know. I'm looking forward to it. Just hope we hit the ball out of the park.

You COULD get a good player with the pick. It’s been a valuable pick three times over the last 30 years.

I'm sure there are plenty of examples but those came off the top of my head. Bottom line is we got to start somewhere. We need to draft effectively so we can be in the mix for a playoff spot in 2028. I'm not joking here. This team is f****** done! And if they were smart they would sell Crosby to colorado. Again no F and joke. This team is like a spider without legs it ain't not going nowhere!. #bring on the rebuild in earnest

Remember when JT Miller, Alexis Kovalev and Markus Naslund let their teams to a Stanley Cup. Amazing performances.

Is that the only criteria by which we judge a 14th overall pick? Seems like a rather flimsy premise. Besides, this will be the first in a long line of high draft picks. I expect next year's to be even higher. Maybe that player will help lead us to a cup. Smart ass!

Looks like it’s Yager or trade the pick. If Yager is off the board…

Since I doubt we will trade it, I’m hoping it’s Colby Barlow. We need goals.

By the way, you can change your pick until the Stanley Cup Finals end. As soon as we have a winner I’ll close it.
