Knies was picked just ahead of Broz, same age, same league, and is looking really good. Not trying to rub anything in as Broz is fine but if you do your homework and/or get lucky even a late 2nd round pick can be a contributor in about 22 months.
If we could draft some guys and turn them into NHL players within a year or two years that'd be pretty game changing.

Seth Jarvis went at 13th overall and got into the NHL pretty quick. It's rare, but it can happen.

Especially if we draft higher than 14.

Honestly, I'm really leaning towards "hold on to the pick" this year. I don't think a 1st brings back anything that is going to absolutely stop our descent/free fall, and I'd rather have the chance of restocking the cupboard with a highly-touted C or W.

Wood and Barlow look good. Not noticing Heidt as much. Wood is a unique combination of size/reach and hands/smarts.

So based on 1 kinda lopsided game from a horrendous camera angle I’d go

Wood
Barlow
Sale
Heidt

And 1 guy I wasn’t looking for but stood out was Andrew Gibson. Maybe a guy to look at in the 3rd.

I like to know your top 10. To me it's 5 and then another 20 guys and some of those guys could be as good as top 5, but you need to guess who is that guy

Sucks was a bad word to use.

I think there are a lock of 5 players with franchise ability IMO. I think those are obvious. Carlsson, Bedard, Michkov, Smith and Fantilli.

After that I have Benson, Yager, Cristall, Dvorsky as other franchise potential guys, but likely top line. After that I’m intrigued but not really sold on keeping our pick.

I changed my pick to David Reinbacher but the chances of him falling to 14th are next to zero % because he is gonna get really good. My other pick would be Gabe Perreault for offense.. Those other guys are going to be gone by the time Pens draft so will Reinbacker.

you never know who might fall, and we may move up.

I would be stoked if we got Dvorský, and not just because we Slovaks are handsome and cool.
he's a guy that i could see playing in the nhl next year. he is already playing with men.

There's like 17 players that everyone is sure won't fall to 14 lol. Someone's gonna fall.

That Perreault - Smith - Leonard line for the US is pretty potent. Any one of those 3 look like a good one. Leonard in particular looks like he likes to get chippy/feisty.

I want us to draft the best player possible and if we have to be patient I will wait. Will Crosby/Sullivan be okay with that though or will they demand the new GM trades the pick for immediate help?

I'm starting to warm a bit to the idea of keeping our pick. There's some good players we could potentially get at that slot.

I'd still happily move our pick if we get someone impactful like Debrincat or Saaros, but it would have to be someone like that. An elite player. Not interested in moving it for someone who doesn't dramatically improve our fortunes in a given area.

It is possible... some teams might want a more defensive forward.. I think we need a all kinds of stuff lol.. If Reinbacker falls that is my pick.. He was getting better than Axel Sandin.

I think another reason I want us to deal our pick is that we simply do not have the turn around to accurately scout and pick someone without relying on the former regime’s intel. Which is the same intel that got us Granlund.
Eh, I haven't had much issue with Hextall's draft record.

Whoever our GM is will have final say anyways if they want to go a different direction than our scouts do.

I'm totally open to moving the pick though but I only want to do it for an elite return (Saaros or Debrincat or someone on that level). It has to be someone who could substantially move the needle for us for years to come. Otherwise, just keep it. I wouldn't move it in like....a Zucker type deal. It's gotta be for someone really good.

Hextall's draft record is TBD, but that Granlund trade was very much the product of a neoptism AGM hire who wanted the dude here. Plus, that regime is also in charge of deciding what to trade that 1st for.

I share your skepticism, but honestly for first half of the 1st round stuff, I think there's not really a lot that is going to change from scouting team to scouting team. Second half is when stuff gets dicey and we might move up a bit anyway, if we're super lucky.

Not really noticing any of our possible picks much in this SWE-CAN game. Barlow’s probably had his name called the most. Stenberg and Wahlberg are standing out, though.

Perreault looks really interesting. Wouldn't mind grabbing him
