That isn't what the numbers say. His positioning and ability to read the game more then makes up for any lack of strength.

As mentioned you aren't top 3 in defensive metrics for over 100 straight games without contributing when not scoring.
So i have to ask, do you think the coaches aren't playing him solely because he's not a vet ? Or do you think the coaches are blind and can't see what you see ? Not trying to be a ass just trying to understand where you are coming from. Me personally i think Perfetti needs to either get a little quicker or a little stronger but he's definitely a very smart hockey player.

All I know is both the coaches and management agree that Cole isn't doing enough to stay in the lineup. I feel pretty comfortable having the same opinion as them.
At the end of it all, Jets are 1st in the Central and 5th overall in the NHL.

Micro decisions involving guys Stanley and Perfetti don't mean much when the team is so successful. This team is solid.

Rangers are probably one of the most complete teams the Jets will face this year, they are missing Trouba on the back end but they are still pretty good on the back end. Goaltending has been top notch this year and their forward line up is very good, even Roslovic has been not to bad. Jets have to show up right from puck drop to have any chance, oh and keep your heads up they got an AHL player running around trying to hurt players.
Ranger fan coming in peace. Lindgren is also out. He got a leg injury last game. Will be out for a couple of weeks.

I'm a big Perfetti backer and really wish that he was in the lineup and not just on the 4th line but once they brought Toffoli aboard his time in the top six was done. He really need to step up if they put him back in or it might be next year for is if Vilardi comes back.

Perfetti has a 2.08 xga/60 with an actual GA of 1.6 per 60, Gus a 2.28 xga/60. Actual goals against per 60 of 2.02.

Seems to be one is better then the other in both expected and actual results.
Here's why this convo is a nothingburger

Cole has played 711 minutes this season, and he's been on the ice for 30 goals for and 19 against

Basically, that 11 goal difference spread over his entire season and assuming 45 second shifts and 8 minutes of ice a game ont the 4th line means that his team will outscore their opponents once every 8 games with him on the ice

Gus has played 267 minutes this year. He's been on for 6 goals for, and 9 against.

Based on the same assumptions as Cole regarding 4th line usage, Gus will be on the ice for one more goal against than for every 11 games

In other words, neither of these guys impact the game enough to be bitching about at the level we see here

I mean we could do this for every player and downgrade their impact, but imo in high stakes situation like the playoffs you'd want any advantage you can get no matter how small.

I'd say putting in a 60%gf player over a 40% gf player is the much better bet

Get used to that.
It was a little strange before we got Toffoli, but now, even with Vilardi out, it is hard to see where he fits.

We could sit Gus and play Names at 4C with Perf on a wing. Might get some scoring out of that 4th line that way. But otherwise, he sits.
If Vilardi comes back then Gus and Perfetti are definitely sitting in my mind but what a great problem to have.

Well we don't know what management thinks. They might not be thrilled with it, just as they weren't thrilled about Maurice not playing Ville a couple of years ago but deferred completely to the coach.

Anyhow we have a difference in philosophy here and I've had a different one then the org has had for years now with bottom 6 deployment and that predates Cole even being drafted here.

Anyhow it will be up to Cole to take this away into the summer and stick it to them next year.
Actually management went out and got 2 top 6 forwards, so I have a pretty good idea what they thought.

This is a big factor I totally agree. Coupled with season fatigue it would just expose him even more, which is what I think we have seen happen.

There were issues in Chef's first couple years but he locked into the training regime and hooked up with the right development coaches (Roberts, Oates) and is what he is today. I see Perfetti going that route. Definitely get quicker and definitely get stronger. He has totally the right attitude so by all accounts he is going to be fine. We just have to be patient.

Yup and I hate being critical of our players and nitpicking but it triggers me when people say that Perfetti is unhappy.

Not a fan of projecting that weakness on him when he's the one who controls if and where he plays.

Management also went out and got two dmen after a very public argument with the coach about Ville.

Management seems to be about the coach getting their way lately here.

Also no player is happy sitting especially one with the pedigree like Cole has. Do you want him to be happy sitting in the stands? I want him mad, I want him pissed off and determined not to have it happen again.

The coach has them at 4th overall in the NHL in winning % i think you have to give a little more credit to our coaches.

Maybe the last line was over the top, but there are defitelty competing factors and disagreements and we have seen the coach get what he wants in the past.

Thats fine. I give him credit for plenty, don't agree with some things.
