Wonder if discussions have got to the point where the Jets know if Manson would waive to come to Winnipeg or not.

Speculation of their supposed interest could be moot point if Manson won’t waive to become a Jet.

Too much on the Cap'...

Would be a welcome addition... but too rich...

If the Jets have had serious trade discussions about Manson, I'd be very surprised if they don't know if he'd waive. My guess is that it's all a lot of smoke, maybe to increase offers from other interested teams. I highly doubt Manson would waive to come to Winnipeg, especially with another year on his contract, Covid, young family, etc.

Jets could definitely make cap space for Manson, without much trouble. The real issue is whether he'd waive to come to Winnipeg.

I don't believe Chevy would take on that hit... that's where it would end...

He must sign a number past the this year... given our talent up front... a concern...

Cap hit is just over 4M for one more season. Certainly manageable for the Jets next season.

I think Seattle will be looking for prospects right off the hop. So draft picks might be their currency, since it worked for Vegas.

That might inspire Seattle to go after Berdin or Harkins instead of De Melo.

I think Beaulieu could be good on the 7 slot.

Morrissey-Heinola
Samberg-Pionk
Stanley-De Melo
Beaulieu

would be a pretty good defense to start 2021.

Prospect currency would be Chisholm moving up, Lundmark, Kovacevic (should be ready), and Gawanke.

That would be the 3rd year of a rebuilt defense which is pretty impressive on Chevy's part.
Where is Poolman he has way more to offer than Beaulieu ?

I don't think Poolman will be back next year. I suspect he'll get a better offer elsewhere. Like Calgary.
Beaulieu is signed, so I'd expect him on the roster next year. But I'd say Stanley has pushed by him, and Samberg should at some point. Still good to have some veteran depth, that can fill the PK role.

Could be Stanley moving up to play with Pionk, and Heinola with De Melo, with Samberg still as ELC depth, which is important to have.

I'd expect Chevy to upgrade on Poolman, either at the deadline or in the offseason. He's good enough to stick in somebody's top 6. Beaulieu's running out of chances, but I think still can get by as a #7 on the Jets. He's the guy who tuned Tkachuk last time he was taking runs, so that's a role that is limited on the Jets.

Stanley will stay a regular roster guy. Heinola is a virtual lock to make the team next season. How long to we have Forbort signed for?

i don't think manson is worth that. honestly think he's living off his rep from 17-18

i've also been wondering about Mike Rielly...... & get demelo back on the top pair

Morrissey-Demelo
Rielly-Pionk
Stanley/Forbort-Poolman

could use an upgrade over poolman, but i think poolman has done fine in a 3rd pair role in the past? idk if i'd pair him with Forbort though, neither are great puck-movers.

I don't think Reilly would be an ideal partner for Pionk. He's more of a puck mover, but not great without the puck. He'd be an okay option to pair with DeMelo, or Poolman. But I think the Jets biggest need is a better defensive D to pair with Pionk. Maybe Oleksiak or Zadorov would fit the bill, and slide Forbort down to 3rd pair. Obviously, DeMelo should be moved up to the top pair.

yeah i brought this up in another thread. Reilly's value comes from his offense. Although i reckon most OTT's defenders tank at defensive stats. Not sure if he and pionk would be ideal

however

Morrissey-Demelo
Stanley-Pionk
Reilly-Poolman

?

i think that's a good mix of skillset on each pair, along with adept puck-movers

Remember when the Jets' pro scouts had no clue how to assess NHL defensemen, and then they acquired Pionk and DeMelo?

(Oh wait, they also acquired Beaulieu, so never mind...)

They acquired Beaulieu as a stop gap to fill in for Morrissey when he went down in 2018. Beaulieu was a former teammate of Scheifele on the Canadian world junior team, so there was an in. Beaulieu trained with De Melo offseason. Next year Jets acquire De Melo.

Pionk was a Duluth guy that our management scouted. Next year two more Duluth guys join the defensive corps in Forbort and Samberg. It's good to assess talent, but Winnipeg is a team more than any other that relies on relationships to build theirs, because Winnipeg itself is not much of a selling point.

They've acquired a ton of players with no obvious connection.

I don't think Forbort-Poolman is a particularly strong pair, I think a lot of coaches would look to take advantage of that matchup. I also don't think Stanley-De Melo should be broken up, as I think having De Melo on a 3rd pairing makes it a stronger pairing, and road matchups is where that matters most.

I'm still interested in Ristolainen from Buffalo, because he can add offense, physicality, and plays big PK minutes, which I think is the role to replace Poolman, if he draws out.

Samberg-Poolman
Heinola-Niku

Ristolainen shouldn't be the same ask as Manson. 1st and a prospect like Gawanke?

Morrissey-De Melo could and have worked before if you need closers. But I'd still be apprehensive about having De Melo slotted as #3 in minutes on the team. Pionk as an offensive generator, De Melo as a shot suppressor, and Ristolainen as a free wheeler is a lot closer to the strengths Buff, Trouba, Myers provided.
