Maurice going back to Morrissey-Poolman???

He says it's about "match-ups". Seriously, why would he want two third pairs to match up with the Canucks?
Mo doesn’t play Poolman stanley much 12 mins maybe... hopefully it’s balanced Mins with demelo back there

makes me nervous... Beau will be back soon ugh

Maybe the answer was for Maurice to play Stanley-Poolman more... because sure they were sheltered but 59% xGoals is a lot of room to be sheltered less and still eat more minutes but stay above 50%:

Maurice has decided to make two pairs worse (considering projected usage)?

Seriously, what is the exact line-up challenge that the Canucks without Pettersson pose that forces you to change from D pairs that were actually working.

The only rationale might be if he's a bit tired of Morrissey's struggles on the top pair and plans to give Stanley more ice time by playing him with DeMelo.

Meanwhile, in the Colorado mostly young players defense is doing terrible (jokes):
ExHzrpuUcAA8_8I

(please note the above numbers do not account for usage and sheltering, but when literately 25% of the top 28 pairs is one team they can't all be sheltered lolol)

Their roster last game:
1st pair: Toews 26yo, 6'1 - Makar 22yo, 5'11
2nd pair: MacDonald 27yo, 6'0 - Girard 22yo, 5'10
3rd pair: Graves 25yo, 6'5 - Byram 19yo, 6'1
Injured: Timmins 22yo, 6'0

Need that size and age

Jets have controlled 39% of goals of the goals with Beaulieu on the ice (13 GF, 20 GA). When he was on the bench the Jets controlled 55% of the goals.

Beaulieu at 5v5
Team worst: goal differential
2nd worst (Morrissey worst): shots on net, Fenwick, Corsi, and Expected Goal +/-

When you account for ice time:
2nd worst (Niku): goal, shot +/-
3rd worst (Niku & Morrissey): all the rest

When you look at how their linemates do with them vs away from them:
2nd worst (Niku): goals +/-
3rd worst (Niku & Morrissey): all the rest

When you account for ice time, usage, protection, and other factors:
Team worst: goal +/-
2nd worst (Morrissey): xGoals and Corsi +/-

You throw in a bad game like the Montreal game, and it looks much worse. But I am glad the Jets coaches read these boards because having De Melo to stabilize Stanley allows for more minutes out of the bottom pairing, also keeps Morrissey and Forbort at better minute levels for less tired play, which is the point I was trying to make. In comparison to Beaulieu and the results (losing 4 of 6, now 7).

Booboo isn’t the worst but he should never be in the lineup over Stanley.

With the emergence of Stanley, we have 1 hole to fill imo. Morrissey's partner. Between Heinola and Samberg i think its covered. Really hope they both get reps by the end. If anything a Hamonic for RD Depth. I think they're coming into form in the back half

I would be interested as well, but not just for chemistry sake.... also for the going from uber sheltered to the wolves in QoC.

I'd keep Stanley where he is. Growing confidence. I think there's a certain leadership quality in having Morrissey, Pionk, and De Melo on different pairings. Poolman is still an inconsistent d-man, lots to like about his game, but both he and De Melo are ideal 3rd pairing d-men. The fact Stanley has got to play with both those guys, would be the chemistry I stick to.

Same with Forbort-Pionk. Good communication. Essential for defense. Eventually Samberg should get Forbort's spot, I think he's still the better prospect?

But Stanley is showing some poise, maybe enough to keep him protected in the expansion draft.

Defense is been better with Beaulieu out of the line up
Any chance can we can get Seattle to take BooBoo and add draft pick with it?

I think Seattle will be looking for prospects right off the hop. So draft picks might be their currency, since it worked for Vegas.

That might inspire Seattle to go after Berdin or Harkins instead of De Melo.

I think Beaulieu could be good on the 7 slot.

Morrissey-Heinola
Samberg-Pionk
Stanley-De Melo
Beaulieu

would be a pretty good defense to start 2021.

Prospect currency would be Chisholm moving up, Lundmark, Kovacevic (should be ready), and Gawanke.

That would be the 3rd year of a rebuilt defense which is pretty impressive on Chevy's part.

Getting time to admit that we'll need $6-7 million to retain Pionk - I think Chevy HAS to do it after the mass departure of our last core - DeMelo will end up being the player exposed (and picked by) Seattle I think

Unfortunately that leaves a hole on our right side now... unless Mo wants to play someone on their offhand which we all know he hates doing

6 goals from Dmen in 35 games.... Jets have to be on pace to set a record in that regard.

Problem with this d group is not really the right side more I think about it.

Morrissey has been crap this year. Forbort started well I think he's starting to falter a bit.

Pionk and DeMelo have been great. Top 4 quality.

If we can get some great Lhd to go along with Stanley on the third pair think we're ok.

Top pair might be fixed a bit if Maurice goes to DeMelo at 1rd to carry Morrissey though. But unsure if he does that.

IMO we won't have a true top-pair quality pairing, but I think there is potential for 3 2nd-pair quality pairings, if that makes sense?

I really think a lot of the trouble with the Jets' D is systemic. Beaulieu's been gone for a month and the team hasn't really been much better since then.

It's weird because Beaulieu's on-ice WOWY's are awful...so you'd think getting him off the ice altogether would help more. But I guess when you just plug Tucker Poolman in there, it doesn't move the needle much. Morrissey-Poolman is about as bad as Beaulieu-Morrissey was.

As @mennoknight427 has been pointing out on Twitter recently, Maurice/Huddy seem very intent on every pairing having a puck mover with a grittier/stay-at-home type. This may explain why we get Morrissey-Poolman all day long even though we suspect that Morrissey-DeMelo would be a lot more effective. Although Morrissey just seems broken at this point...

i do think our D group needs better individual players. However, i don't disagree with your post. 1 or 2 new additions will help but i don't think it'll be a significant change unless it's a collective effort. starting with the guys on the bench the fwds and the dmen

i dont think that style of Puck mover+stay at home type is a failure. teams have done well with that style i think. they just had really good players in those roles meanwhile we have morrissey, poolman, forbort (who's play has been faltering as of late), beaulieu, etc. We also have 3 fwds that rate V poorly among NHL Fwds individual defensive play who are getting top-6 minutes so that likely doesn't help.

I really think a lot of the trouble with the Jets' D is systemic. Beaulieu's been gone for a month and the team hasn't really been much better since then.

Wonder if discussions have got to the point where the Jets know if Manson would waive to come to Winnipeg or not.

Speculation of their supposed interest could be moot point if Manson won’t waive to become a Jet.
