It's completely unfathomable imo. He has way WAY better numbers than a guy like Tyler Brennan whose touted as the top goalie for this year's draft (that doesn't say much considering how weak it is this year for goalies), and has gotten even better in the WHL playoffs. If Hauser was 6'3"+ he would be getting endless amounts of attention for this year's draft and would be the undisputed best goalie in the draft.

I would easily grab him with one of our late round picks.

Fair comments. Although I wonder if some of the enthusiasm is tempered somewhat by the fact that the ICE are such a good team all around (whereas PG is not) and the fact that the ICE have evolved to a much more defensive style of play?

If Hauser is truly elite then he is going to get a perfect chance to show it against a high scoring Oil Kings team which is loaded with top notch snipers. That should get him a lot of attention.

Winnipeg
I just got back from my first ICE game.

The last time I saw the Warriors play live they were the Winnipeg Warriors wearing red Cooperalls in the early 1980s.

The last time I saw the ICE play live was in Calgary and they were the Kootenay ICE.

The first period was all Warriors and we were out shot at one point 11 to 3 yet still managed to be in it down 2-1.

In the second, James Patrick changed his strategy and started having his players use stretch passes to neutralize the Warriors aggressive forecheck and the period ended with the ICE having a 4-3 lead.

The third was all ICE especially when they went up 5-3.

After that, unlike the Jets, I had no fear of the ICE blowing a two goal lead in the third.

They scored an empty net goal and that was it.

The atmosphere was fun, but, the ICE really, really need there own, modern rink.

If your looking for a fun, relatively inexpensive night out, I recommend you check out the ICE.

The conference finals are almost here, and the matchup that pretty well everyone expected in the east, Edmonton vs. Winnipeg is looming.

Any thoughts on what to expect? On paper Winnipeg finished ahead of Edmonton, but the Oil Kings beat the ICE in 3 out of the 4 games they played this season. The one game the ICE won was without several of the Oil Kings' biggest names who had already left for the WJHC. The only key ICE player absent at the WJHC for that game was Carson Lambos.

For what it's worth the ICE/Oil Kings games were fairly close this season unlike in 2019-20. The only fairly big Oil Kings win was a 6-3 game.

At one point I would have been pretty concerned about this matchup but considering the overall improvements in the ICE's defensive game since Christmas, plus the excellent play of Daniel Hauser in net, I think the ICE can pull off the series win. I will pick the ICE to beat the Oil Kings in 7, with the big conference-clinching game coming at home in the 2-3-2 series.

Any other thoughts/predictions?

I’ve for the Oil Kings in six. They’ve looked unstoppable these playoffs — they haven’t lost yet and have played better teams than the ICE. They’re more experienced, older and loaded up the deadline while the ICE only made relatively small adds.

Winner of this goes to the Memorial Cup IMO. The ICE players are better at a younger age and a good chunk of our roster is likely in the NHL by the time they are 19-years-old like the current Oil Kings roster is. This was the year to go for it, with the special roster the ICE have, and it’s head-scratching that they didn’t do much to complement this run. We’ll see if it comes back to bite them or not.

We've got ourselves a battle between #1 and #2 in the entire league!

It so happens that we've seen quite a few battles of 1 vs. 2 in the history of hockey in the city...

1973 Avco World Trophy finals: New England Whalers (1) vs. Winnipeg Jets (2)
RESULT: Whalers win Cup 4-1

1976 Avco World Trophy finals: Houston Aeros (1) vs. Winnipeg Jets (2) (both teams with 106 points, but Aeros with more wins)
RESULT: Jets win Cup 4-0

1977 WHA Western Division Finals: Houston Aeros (1) vs. Winnipeg Jets (2)
RESULT: Jets win series 4-2

1978 Avco Cup Finals: Winnipeg Jets (1) vs. New England Whalers (2)
RESULT: Jets win Cup 4-0

2009 Calder Cup Finals: Manitoba Moose (1) vs. Hershey Bears (2)
RESULT: Bears win Cup 4-2

2018 Western Conference Semifinals: Nashville Predators (1) vs. Winnipeg Jets (2)
RESULT: Jets win series 4-3

Final tally: 2 for 1st place teams, 4 for 2nd place teams (eep!)

I love the historical look-back, @RetroWinnipeg !!

Regardless of the standings, the Oil Kings have the historical advantage. The ICE played them closer this past season than in 2019/20, but they have never been able to solve the Oil Kings (except for that one game that didn't really count).

So the ICE are underdogs, but I definitely think they can pull it off. If Hauser remains hot and the commitment to responsibly defensive hockey continues, the ICE can swing it.

Speaking personally, I have found myself in the highly unfortunate position of having personal commitments for every ICE home game day in round 3 except game 6, so I am really really hoping the ICE can wrap it up in 6

ICE paying for management’s ill-advised decision to do nothing at the deadline, tonight. Edmonton walking over them.

Not sure it was ill advised. The Ice should have a lot of returnees next year while Edmonton will lose some to graduation. They're essentially a year older than Winnipeg. This is bonus success.

That’s also my thoughts, but I am worried because the ICE players are generally better at a younger age than the Edmonton players — so we could lose some to the NHL.

Is it on tv anywhere?
I don’t think so. I subscribed via the WHL app.

I don't see Savoie or Geekie making the NHL full time. Lambos maybe, given the Wild's cap problems? Benson isn't eligible. Hauser should come back. I think the main group sticks around and that extra year should be beneficial.
