Can someone explain to me, how Matthew "Bees" Knies is hyped to become some Leafs superstar, yet Carter Mazur isn't talked about at all?

Same draft class, same position, played together in the USHL where they had pretty much identical numbers in their draft years for Tri City despite Knies being the 1LW and Mazur being the 2LW, virtually the same numbers in their two seasons in college in very comparable D1 conferences in terms of quality. Oh and Mazur was substantially better than Knies at the WJC, too.

I can't see anything aside from Leaf bias as the reasoning here...
A not insignificant chunk of the Leaf fan base believe that Wendel Clark is the greatest Leaf ever. Knies is bigger and more physical than Mazur. That's it. Same thing that led to them overpaying for David."Call me Wendel" Clarkson.

Some combination of Mazur being an overager pick after being undrafted while Knies was building a lot of buzz in his draft season and then went to the #1 hockey market in the world.

Technically Knies had far superior production in the USHL in his draft season as opposed to Mazur in his draft season, even though they are only 6 months apart. Knies had 42 pts in his draft season vs Mazur with 13 pts in his draft season. Again keep in mind Mazur was drafted as an overager. So this is Mazur's +3 season while it is Knies +2 season... technically.

But would agree with you that they have had pretty comparable seasons this year, and Mazur maybe should have some more hype than he does. Again though a lot of this is just players who people were familiar with beforehand vs not.

You answered your own question right there! Knies is bigger by 37lbs and 3 inches taller, that's about it. Knies also played in the Olympics, which is probably what most fans see when they look at the stats.

Read your last sentence again, you shoulda just led with that and saved yourself the typing. Mazur was a late developer is a big part of it though too. Guys get stuffed away in the NCAA and unless theyre absolutely insane people dont really follow them a bunch.

Mazur and Knies are extremely similar prospects, but I will say that Mazur was a lot better at the WJC. If he got to play with Cooley I imagine he would look a bit better than Knies

Knies is bigger, not sure hes more physical though. He isnt soft but hes more of the big body take the puck to the net type. Mazur is more the type that will try to take your head off when he gets the chance. Neither are Clark at all obviously but comparison wise you would see more of that in Mazur game than Knies

Clarke was awesome. He sacrificed his body for the team

When is Carter Gylander ready to be signed? After tonight’s game we need goalies badly.
I think he's ready. If he goes back for his senior year he can sign with whoever he wants and we'd probably lose him. But signing Bednar for next year makes me think Gylander has already decided not to sign with the Wings. We'd have 3 young goalies in the system (potentially 4 if St.Cyr earns a contract for next year) and I think we'd need an AHL vet at least. Plus Lethemon has earned another contract.

Ken Daniels been going out of his way to advertise the michigan colgate game as particular interest for us wings fans because of Gylander. Gotta think he's heard that the org is interested in him.

I think you are probably right. That’s going to tick me off a little. I thought he was a great pick that year

The goalie that matters will be playing for Grand Rapids next season. #BandAidsUntilCossa
Eventually we are going to need two goalies
