Whats a transfer portal? Is it to move to another university? If so, that is bad.
The transfer portal permits student athletes to place their name in an on-line database declaring their desire to transfer. Athletes enter the portal by informing their current school of their desire to transfer; the school then has two business days to enter the athletes' name in the database.

There are a number of reasons an athlete may want to transfer such as: New head coach, not getting the desired playing time, promises from recruitment not being kept, academics, etc. It provides freedom they never had, to go where they want to go, play where they want to play, see where their skills might take them.

At least in college football, many of the top athletes you'll see will have transferred before, Joe Burrows being one of the more recent examples.

I suppose this means another year in college for him? Won't that bring him to the 4 necessary to become a UFA? I've got a bad feeling about this.

Have the rules changed so that he won't have to sit out a year? I thought that was mandatory before when transferring.

It's to move to another program. He was probably BU's best player last year and was only given 3rd line minutes most of the time. Guys like Dylan Peterson, Luke Tuch and Tyler Boucher were getting more regular ice than him early in the year despite playing poorly.

The season before that he was probably top 3 and was given 3rd line minutes. And as a rookie he only saw top line minutes with Zegras (where he was really effective) when there were injuries.

BU just fired coach Albie O'Connell who was absolute trash in his 4 years there, despite having guys like Jake Oettinger, Joel Farabee, Trevor Zegras, Dante Fabbro, and David Farrence. The program has been in a downward slide since he took over.

I'm a proud BU alumni and a big fan of Mastro, but I can't blame the kid for leaving. I hope he lands somewhere that he can play top line minutes.

Yeah, about a year ago the NCAA did eliminate the requirement to sit out a year after transferring. I think it was kind of related to COVID, but there was a big push for it to happen before COVID too.

Mastrosimone will be able to play next season for whatever school he transfers to.

Since he's in the portal, and I haven't heard any murmurs about the Wings signing him, it sure does sound like he's going to play a 4th year of college. Hopefully the Wings can still get him signed and we don't see him walk to another NHL organization next summer.

Viro & TPS advanced to the Liiga finals today, though he didn't play despite being in the warm-ups. No word on what happened.

Seems like he's making some noise.

Do y'all agree with this?
Askarov was sent back to the VHL and is doing okay, but not anywhere near where he was projected to be. But he's not yet 20...so he's got time. The next year or two will tell the story of whether he can get back on track with his development. His save %, year over year, is on a steady decline...although he seems to be doing okay in his team's playoff run, so far, this year.

I don't understand the obsession with nitpicking every game Cossa plays, first round goalie or not who cares what he does in juniors? The CHL is a completely different league than the AHL, let alone the NHL. Maybe hold off on the hot takes until he plays a full season in a pro league which won't be for a while. Plus goalie is the one position where overripening is solid development option

It's from two camps.
The ones pissed about trading up to draft a goalie.
The ones pissed about Cossa over Wallstedt.

Why anyone pissed at Cossa?
Most of us have no idea how to spot great goaltender. I remember how I was happy when we got Zadina and forwards are much easier to predict. Draper interviewed him and was convince that Cossa is a prime target so they trade up, we also got , I believe, the best prospect out of last draft, but we don't know yet , time will tell
