A good reminder to take most hfboards opinions and throw them firmly in the trash can. And yes I include my own in that lol (although I've always been defensive of the Mazur pick).

I didn’t go out of my way to watch Denver this year, but I caught probably 6-7 games and routinely Mazur looked like he was playing at a different level than his teammates. You know how sometimes you just know with certain guys that they are a cut above the rest? The pace he played with, the embracing of driving the center of the ice, the way he controlled the puck through contact. He appeared to have really good intangibles with just enough skill to be dangerous.

I think he’s a player and wouldn’t be out of place in Grand Rapids next year if we decided to turn him pro. But then again, there is absolutely no rush for that to happen at this point.

Was Mazur expected to be in GR next year?

I would think he stays in the NCAA for one more year. Theyre likely losing at least Brink and Savoie this year so next year Mazur would be the go to guy there. Even if he wasnt drafted as an overager, usually guys stay 3 years in the NCAA which would make after next season his "normal" year to go pro.

Plus I think hes a guy who the NCAA will help way more than most prospects. A super late growth spurt and a physical game means he can just work out constantly so that his game works against pros in the future.

The guy is looking a bit like Hyman in his UM days. But with better skating. The dude is relentless.

He reminds me a tonne of Bertuzzi out there. Even has the crack head toothless smile that Bert does. You'll be watching him and he kinda looks ugly doing it at times but hes just super effective and makes a bunch of really high IQ plays. Theyre also similar in the late growth spurt and developing really quickly aspect. I doubt you see Mazur throwing punches over the head of a ref like Bert was last night, but he definitely has that physical, super pest side to him that Bertuzzi did as well

I remember when we got Bert , they call him pest, but we don't know him like that , I guess he controls his emotions.

He started putting up points and got away from it a bit, but he was still throwing bombs over a linesmens head at a player that didnt want to fight last night to the point his hand was bleeding everywhere. Hes done some greasy stuff in his career for sure

If you watch the replay, Gavrikov (I believe) had Bertuzzi by the neck from behind and was craning Bertuzzi bending him backwards. I don’t care whether Gavrikov wanted to fight or not, when you do that to someone, that person has every right to initiate a fight. To me, that was Gavrikov openly starting a fight

I had absolutely 0 issue with him doing it at all lol I encourage that kind of play/sticking up for yourself. I'm just saying the guy is definitely not a saint

I’ve actually been impressed with Bertuzzi. He’s only mucking it up when something preempts it. I feel like we got lucky that he really isn’t a rat like some other guys are. You screw around and he will come after you, but he’s not taking cheap shots or making questionable hits. Even in retaliation he doesn’t really ever cross the line to being dirty. He’s just a willing combatant.

If Mazur can become anything like Bertuzzi, I’ll go out of my way to make room for him. Bring me more.

The crackhead smile reminds me of Mitch Callahan.

Mazur is already a better skater than Dirty Harry, though. If he lands in the Bunting/Hyman/Killorn/Bertuzzi spectrum of physical winger that goes to the tough areas and makes life easy for his linemates then I'm going to do a happy dance.

I love the way Tyler plays, but i think he would/will be more of a pest if/when we start play more relevant hockey.

Not sure if anyone caught this, but interesting analysis on our prospect pool:

TLDR: We’re pretty solid but pretty much no one is sold on Edvinsson.
What a stupid idea to say that Sanderson is a player they are sold on and edvinsson isn’t when edvinsson has been playing in a men’s league and having one of the best seasons there has been ever for an 18 year old. If you aren’t sold on edvinsson you shouldn’t be sold on Sanderson.

Wallstedt got wally pipped by Lulea, he's now the backup... I'll take Cossa

I have no clue what wally pipped is, but I know one of the complaints is that Wallstedt isn't playing in the postseason. Lulea went with the more experienced goalie in the playoffs and that's it. That doesn't change the fact that Wallstedt had a good year.

I laughed good at this. Yeah I wanted Wallstedt on draft day, personally. But I think it's still early to tell who will be better long run. Goalies are not to be trusted in the first place.
Wallstedt at 6.

...Cossa at 13.:(
Askarov is at 36 if that makes you feel any better.

Askarov should have been brought over to North America this season so that's really on Nashville.
