I don't think we ever were interested in trading Hopkins he's one of McLellan's favorites. McDavid and Draisaitl are still quite young and he helps shelter them from tougher match-ups and is a key member of our PK which is doing pretty well right now. The dialogue from the organization and from those with insider knowledge is we are looking at adding a 3rd line center, with the intention of playing Draisaitl higher up in the line-up on the wing.

We don't have a second because of Chiarelli compensation and a 1st + Jones is too much. The 1st is prettymuch our one big expendable trade chip for the deadline.

I think it's way too early for Edmonton fans to be selling their 1st, at least not unprotected. That being said, I think Sheahan would be a perfect fit for Edmonton.

Even if the Wings do trade some players off they have no intention of fully tearing it down and spending 5 years as a bottom 10 team like the Sabres, Coyotes, and Leafs. The team would try and use those picks to trade for quality Dmen.

Larkin, Dekeyser and Mrazek are pretty much the only untouchables on the roster, the rest can be had I think.

Green, Nielsen, Athanasiou, Nyquist (and Mantha, Svechnikov, Cholowski) would be in the second tier, where their value is pretty high.

Realistically, Vatanen for Tatar would be great for the long term. Kronwall for younger prospect could be interesting too.

All in all, if the Red Wings aren't in a playoff race by February, I would like to see a sort of fire sale, get a new regime in. Would be surprised if it's not part of their plans.

But if that doesn't get done and you need a LHD. You can get either McNabb or Martinez, but Sproul would have to come back with Tatar.

So if you could get him for practically nothing you would be happy? That is a surprise.... Kronwall isn't being moved with a 3rd round pick being the main piece coming back.
