This report is a real bombshell. Kinda feels like there's no coming back from this being made public...the relationship may be fractured for good with Kreider and Trouba.

Not for nothing, I want to see how this storyline keeps playing out tonight in terms of Kakko at center. Chytil seems like a lost cause at this point. We have wingers, we have more in the system. We don't really have many centers down the line. If they can turn him into a utility sort of guy that could play at W or C that'd be pretty awesome

Trouba was quoted saying something along the lines of this year being the last crack for the current core.

1. This was always one of my worries with hiring Laviolette. He struggled to get an entrenched veteran core in Washington to buy into his system and was met with similar apathy. It was a quick band-aid solution to try to paper over Gallant, and it just wasn't the right move for the team at this time.
Actually it was the exact best thing that they could do to give them a chance to go as far as possible. It's hard to argue the latter.

The young players that have made strides on the roster in the 100 games that Laviolette has coached:

Lafreniere
Chytil
Kakko
Cuylle
Schneider
Jones
Edstrom

Does Gallant even give them a chance? Probably not. On top of that, you got the best year of Trocheck as an NHLer, Panarin dropped 120 points, and you made the conference finals and lost to the best team in the NHL.

Young players need structure to develop appropriately. Gallant and Quinn offered none of that, and AV before that was very similar. Torts was the last coach that went on about structure. The development track post Torts was not good. There are very few that did develop after the fact. Zibanejad, Fox, Lindgren, and Miller are the ones that stand out. Strome didn't develop, just saved his career. Tons of busts though, and high draft selections on top of that.

The vets bought into it last season, so has the message worn thin on the group or do these veteran players tune out a coach too quickly? They played through the Quinn years because it was a retool and the veterans ran the show. Gallant comes in to try and "toughen" the team up, and it "works" for a year, but have no tactics behind their play.

Laviolette has his system and asks you to play a part in it. If a veteran player cannot last more than 120 total games in that system, it's the player, not the coach.

Confused on why Trouba would “accept” a trade anywhere(on his list or not), after this summer they made it seem like he would straight up refuse to report?

Buffalo needs to add but thats a start. Id be interested in Ryan McLeod as well. Maybe throw Lindgren in with Kreider and take back Samuelsson
I'd love to land the other brother if they ever get the court stuff done and they end up without a record when it is all said and done.....he can play .

Because his wife's residency here would be complete -- therefore she can go anywhere and be a doctor; she won't be bound to NYC any longer.

Depending on what actually went down, and the adage 'a week is a long time in sport':
- he's had a chance to talk and plan with his partner
- his decided he likes the idea of a move now its a real possibility
- his wife has scoped out different options
- he thought this season's team would be more cohesive and have a better chance at a Cup look
- if he knows he's getting moved eventually maybe it's better to just get it over with

Or he's just going to continue to be an obstructionist, and deal with the fallout as it comes

Mail order package just arrived for my wife.

She grabs it, then proceeds to tell me that she bought it off Temu but doesn't know how best to use it.

I said, are you the Rangers organization?

I think fans need to be a little more realistic when it comes to NYR making trades right now. The likely outcome is that it doesn't make us a lot better this season as most teams aren't just handing away players of value and impact to a lineup.

I don’t think this season has gone off the rails yet but this is certainly a data point to suggest we’re getting there.

I’ve been saying this season had a high chance of blowing up with all this stuff. Drury tried to make changes in the offseason, hit a roadblock, gave up on trying to make changes and prayed running it back would yield better results.

I don’t know how during media day the captain openly saying “yes this is the last chance for our group” is anything but a huge red flag lol. These guys are people, knowing the grim reaper is hanging over them has an effect.
