What the addition does is that it allows them to add a a bit more experience to the back end . They most likely will move or trade an O/A D -man shortly(this week) and this allows them more flexibility when they do. The cost was negligible. My hope is that they can add 2 potentially good young defensive prospects when they clean house. The question is will they trade sooner or at the Jan 10th deadline.
Agree with your 1st sentence re experience though including Toms, Spits still are 20th overall for years experience and number of players with experience but think this player will help moving forward.

We could have kept Sobolev and Holmes and had 2 veteran D we already had. Eichler is a low 46th overall import. Expecting a "rebuild" this year and expected low finish in the standings, next season we would have 2 higher import picks thinking Dionicio will be moved or AHL next year. That is how you gain good imports to rebuild with.

Eichler is rated for the upcoming draft, won't be 18 for another month and a half, and despite a slow start, though he didn't have a training camp, exhibition season, recovering from Mono, travel delayed here, Sobolev btw was picked 40th by Windsor and worked out fine,I like Eichler's upside, his 1st 8 games where Spits went 1-7,he was a -10, in his last 4 games he is a +5,and while you are right re Dionicio so far I am satisfied with Eichler.
Should mention that the returns from trading Holmes,Sobolev and DeAngilis are 2-2nds,2-3rds,2-4ths,2-6ths,1-8th,2-15ths, and dman Connor Walton who is only 17,myself no problem with deals despite the fact I liked both Sobolev and DeAngilis, not so much Holmes.

The Dangelis trade was a good haul. I was fine with that trade. I am not complaining about Holmes and Sobolev were traded just if D has been and is am issue their leadership and experience would be an asset with the young core. Honestly team could do without Dionicio and still have taken eichler. He'll be likely traded anyways by deadline.

Eichler isn’t worth an import slot.

What have you been watching on the ice?

Considerable improvement from his 1st 8 games played, competes, hits and he is still only 17.
Being a +5 in last 4 games with Dionicio as his partner is good with me.
What have u been watching.
I see ZERO points in 12 games played, undisiplined play leading to Many short handed opportunities for the other teams, a -5 on the season. Not to mention he struggles to move the puck up the ice, and makes some pretty bad decisions with the puck.

Competing hard only gets you so far if you don’t have the talent.

That’s what I have been watching.

If/When Sudbury releases Chromiak, Windsor needs to be all over him and release Eichler.

I see what the scouts have been seeing re Eichler reason why he is rated, while you are correct he is -5 on the season, the last 4 games he is +5,as he was a -10 after 1st 8 games, lack of offense doesn't concern me as playing with Dionicio will leave nobody back on D,nice to see someone concentrate on D not offense only.
Had he had full camp and exhibition plus new country ,language adjustments I can get your point way too early to condemn this player imo.

What have the scouts been saying?

I see a small defensive defender that isn’t patiularly efficient at playing defence, isn’t effective at all in the offensive zone save for a few floaters in net every so often.

I’d be fine if the Spitfires kept him, but he isn’t anything special, and won’t get drafted. If Chromiak goes on waivers, and the Spitfires pass up on him because they want to keep Eichler, that’d be a mistake.

I'm all in on what "Punch" suggested the Spits do.

If Chromaik becomes available to the Spits them they should grab him. Trade Dionico ( which their probably going to be doing in a few weeks anyway). And keep Eichler. Go with both 17 year old imports for the rest of the year. Then make a decision for the import draft. They will likely have a high pick so maybe they release someone there? As OHLTG suggested you need to be careful of the catch and release policy or kids won't come. Carry on.

eichler is the type of defenceman you can find in ontario pretty easy with a mid round ohl pick. im not sure hes all that different then toms, who was acquired via a 12th round pick. you dont use import picks on guys like that. chromiak at least has offensive upside and could be an nhl pick. eichler will not be picked.

3rd for 12th .......I would say there are considerations going Sault's way.
Just because he drafted higher, doesn't mean his worth is at that level now. Based on his numbers, I would think a 12th round is about right.....

Bowler has been able to turn acquisitions the last couple of years,Christopoulis when had 1 goal in 20 games with NBay scores 13 with Windsor, another 11 in the playoffs, scores 49 last yr,75 points and now has 5 points in his 1st 3 games this year,Mallet went from 10G,21A, 2 years ago to 24G,52A last year,Peer a free agent 2 years went from 6G,3A in 1st year to 22G,45A last year, and now has 5G,9A in 12 games this year, and Dionicio went from 4G3A in 17 games with Niagara,to 13G,30A,43 points last year, and now has 12 points in 12 games this year, as well 1st 8 games this year he was -8,last 4 games he is +4,heck Greentree was -13 his 1st 8 games this year, last 4 games +4 plus 7 points, and is the best 2nd rounder drafted last year by Bowler then anyone.
Toms was drafted in the 3rd round by the Hounds for a reason,no doubt in my mind he will help this team moving forward especially with the possibility that Woodall is out long term.
What happened to Woodall, I seemed to have missed that?

This idea of catch and release is only happening because Bowler is making poor import picks. The only good thing Bowler has done with imports is he didn't hang on to Hebek very long. I am not happy with the import picks but it's not the players fault it falls on Bowler. If Bowler selected better imports we wouldn't be having this discussion.

No contacts will lead to bad picks. I'm not even sure they have the Euro scouts anymore?

Well if you have scouts in the USA there are a lot of Europeans in the USHL. I will be interested when there's a new commish if they will lift the ban on Russian and Belarusians. CHL lost a big time player in Levshunov. I can't imagine the league is happy with that.

very few if any ohl teams have european scouts. its usually agents, video and contacts.

Deal Dionicio now. He'll be gone for the world juniors anyways and trade deadline shortly afterwards. Risk of injury not worth holding out another month. Deal Smith, Castle, Abraham, to remove some of the dead wood. See if Spellacy can pick it up being highlighted. Use some returns to replace non OA material 19 yr olds we currently have. Next Maillet and Peer and Christopoulis who would fetch the best return now that he's back and productive.

The question is…..can you get a better return now or on Jan 10th? My guess is now, as more teams still in the hunt now than will be Jan 10th.

Agree. Partners become limited especially being an import. The advantages goes to the buyer come January for an import.
