Okay, time for some thoughts...
- That may have been the worst opening period I've ever seen.
- The second period was a touch better but... still...
- They figured out how to play hockey in the third. Eh, it's the little things.
- It's impossible to pinpoint any specific players because the entire team struggled. I'm not blaming the goaltenders, the defence, or the forwards specifically; this was a total team meltdown.
- Smith was downright pissed after the game and rightfully so. I've said from the start that he deserved a chance to lead this club and I stand by that. However, this might have been the breaking game. Something isn't working and it was screaming tonight.
- Bowler getting booed at the start was both amusing and eye-rolling. I hate that he made the trades this close to the game but did people expect him to buy again? Unless they were booing at the timing of the deals? That must be it... right?
- I feel for the players; deals that close to the game have to be mentally frustrating. After the game, Smith said that it's part of hockey and you have to be mature/professional and do your job. I get that but... man, that's rough.
- Like I said before, I liked Mancini's game. After the game he said he's here to play that shutdown, physical, in-your-face role. He's had little-to-no time to adjust and still did alright.
- Zhugin played well, too. He goes straight for the net, regardless of where he starts, and is happy to grind in the crease.
- I don't know if Bowler is done but I highly doubt it. There's too much smoke to be no fire.
Take tonight's tape, burn it, and move on to Kitchener tomorrow. This team can beat the Rangers, we've seen it. At this point, they have to at least compete with them. Anything less and it's going to get uglier than most of us have seen.
Oh, the last time Windsor gave up 12 in a game? Mar. 21, 2015, I think? In the Soo.
