Another twist could also be yes Egor signed prior to the draft, however terms of the contract might start say Sept 2019. If this is the case then he might not be under contractual obligations at time of actual NHL draft. Oh I wish these situations were simply spelled out in English lol

I doubt it was in deal.

we still are owned those picks. if Egor goes right to the ahl then the 3 pics are ours. he has to play a game. that’s why signing doesn’t really mean anything, it’ll be up to the team that drafts him.

i have no doubt he’ll be here, it’s a massive jump from the ushl to the ahl. Itll be the year after that may be the issue

Every contract is for the start of the next year. the contract doesn’t start until he plays a game.

As of 2016, the rule was still - if drafted out of the CHL, you're in the NHL or CHL until 20-years-old OR 3/4 seasons in CHL. I'm looking it up now and the Marner stuff caught my attention.

Egor would be considered a Windsor Spitfire right now, so he'll be drafted out of the CHL. In theory, that would mean he's not eligible for AHL until he's 20. Given his birthday is in January, I'd imagine this means he's not eligible for AHL until 2021-22.

Again, I could be wrong but trying to piece together the puzzles...
It’s almost as if the CHL/OHL do everything in their power to make it difficult for the fan to get info.

The Rangers had a player in a similar situation a couple years back. ( name escapes me but the player had signed pre NHL draft but had not played a game yet) But they were deemed AHL eligible.
I do however think you will see him in Windsor.

Egor is a good hockey player and great pick up for Windsor, but I think some are over valuing his skills. As the 16th ranked North American skater he likely ends up as an early second round 32-40 pick. IMO there is no fear of going directly to the AHL, 2 years in the O is very likely depending on who selects him.
As a comparable, Kiefer Bellows was drafted out of the USHL (19th pick), played a year NCAA, then a year in the WHL before going to the AHL.

Take a breath folks. He’ll play here and barring a trade will play at least 1 year. I would guess 2. He’s good but not great. Yes 7 he has to play to settle the trade!!

Jeremy morin?

Jeremy Morin was signed after playing in the NTDP by the Rangers and introduced on the big screen (along with Brandon Maxwell) during the last home game of the 2008-09 regular season.

He was then drafted by Atlanta in the 2009 draft.

He played for the Rangers in 2009-10 season (you Spit fans will remember his being on the Ranger team that was up 3-0 vs Windsor before the big comeback).
Atlanta traded his rights to Chicago before the 2010-11 season and they sent him play in the AHL as a 19 year old.

So unless rules have changed, we can assume Afanaseyev can play in the AHL as an underager.

I believe that Steve Spott even went as far as to try and file an appeal or something to that effect to try and have Morin play in Kitchener in 2010-11. He cited the same thing mentioned here: "He was signed to an OHL contract before the draft and therefore a Ranger when he was NHL drafted". But it went nowhere. I don't think it even went past Dave Branch's desk. Rules are rules.

Here is a copy of the current agreement signed in 2013 running till the end of next season. I didn't know it is the NHL that demands a maximum of 3 overage players per team playing in a game. Lots of reading for anyone who is bored lol

I’m hearing the Rychel will leave the team tomorrow. We are now relying on Bill Bowler to make player moves and drafts. I worry that he is unproven and might not carry the clout that Rychel obtained with three M Cups under his belt. Hope for the best but am preparing for the unknown

I won’t hate this if it happens. It is time for Rychel to move on. I feel he was average at best after 2011.

I won’t criticize Bowler but Warren brought something special to the team. People believed he could and would assemble a Champion, it will be really hard to replicate that.

This brings up a few questions:

1. Why is he leaving?

2. Is Bowler going to be named GM?

3. Why all of a sudden?

The spits will give some fluff answers that will make more questions than u started with. Usual PR for spits.
Cant wait. Lol
Unless u know what happened..... :)

I am good with him gone. I just hope that Bowler isn't a puppet for the Savage brothers. Yes he's an employee of those two but he should be allowed to chart his own vision. I doubt Bowler has the autonomy at this time to fire Letowski because that has more to do with $$$$ than anything else.

I don’t think it really matters why he is leaving. Pretty sure writing was on the wall he would be gone with all the rumors and once he sold his portion of team. If he is leaving i don’t see it as a shock. Like i said before he hasn’t done a whole lot since 2011. But has probably been the best Windsor has had. Now hopefully this team can move in a new direction and start winning again.

To some it might not matter why he's leaving, but if a 12-year GM gets up and just walks away, after all he's done, I'd sure like to know the reason. "Oh, so-and-so just walked away from the team after a decade? Cool... so, what's for dinner?" I want to know why. I want to know what sparked this - has it been happening since the sale? Is Bowler the official GM? There are lots of questions; people may or may not want an answer, but I sure do.

Afanasyev signing is neither good or bad at this point, that will be determined with what else Windsor does over the off season. If they can add a few more prospects, move out a few players to add some assets then it is definitely a good thing but if that doesn’t happen then, while him being here is not altogether a bad thing but if he is only here for one year and Windsor doesn’t/isn’t able to capitalize on it then losing those draft picks will hurt going forward.

Agree that a high end prospect signing is needed but what the final cost will be will determine if it was worth it. Can he help attract a few more holdouts? Will Windsor be willing to spend the needed funds to sign a few players in order to get younger prospects in the line up and allow them to move a couple of vets out even if they are not the “high profile” players. Would signing a Brimmer replace a Purboo etc?

Lots of questions with the first one to likely be answered being the import situation. With Medina signed does Piiroinen return or does Windsor move on, keeping Incze and Medina then drafting two imports? I have a feeling outside of that there will be no moves until August, the rest of June will remain quiet barring any signings.

I would agree with a lot of this. Happy the Spits get to add talent. The question remains if they can actually quickly build a talented roster up to have him thrive as well as the franchise.

I would agree the import draft is extremely important and you can probably see a better vision depending on if the player reports etc...
