I wonder what all those people think now who said Dubas overpaid for Nylander and how his contract was horrible.

this is Leafsnation logic, once they hate on a player.
He is who he is and will never improve his game.
Player improves his game, he is lucky....
He is overpaid and will never live up to his contract.
Player lives up to his contract, he is still overpaid compare to Player X who signed for cheaper.
Player declares his love for the City and wants to be legend.
Well, if he really loves the city and the team, where is the discount?

Willy plays poorly - Trade him, he sucks!

Willy plays well - Trade him, he's a valuable asset!

Poor Willy.
I just find it funny where people say he is soft and overpaid, and then in the next sentence say to trade him for a top 4 defenceman.
If he is soft and overpaid, why would teams pay a top 4 defenceman for him?

Willy is a great player and a value contract. No chance I'm trading that unless I get a home run.

I also remember the non Leafs fans who complained how Nylander was also making more money than David Pastrnak and how he didn't deserve to be doing that.

Marner has not been close to our best forward and it's not even up for debate.
Matthews and Nylander are above him this season. Marner only really got going when he returned from injury.
Honestly between Matthews, Marner, Nylander and Tavares, that's a good problem to have when we debate who is the best forward.

Youre jumping from first year to now. There's a gradual progression here in that shooting location numbers when you look at all three. Thats all.
Of course I am... you said there hasnt been much difference between his shot locations this year compared to previous years and there has clearly been a very obvious trend of shooting more from the slot and less from wide areas as he has progressed. Your really shifting the argument on this one to be honest..

Edit: referring specifically to you saying the following:

"In terms of 5v5 - the broad criticism was that he was a "perimeter" player, but his overall shooting location data this season is really no different than his previous years. He isnt "going to the net" any more than his norm - the main difference this season is that hes converting more chances "

This is factual wrong as I showed and now your switching what your saying then trying to act like I'm jumping around lol

Yep. But nobody is saying Player X is not deserve of his contract bc he makes more than MacKinnon.
I think even McDavid is not deserve of
his contract if you compare his to MacKinnon.

I think the Nylander contract comparison with Pastrnak is because both were 1st round picks in the 2014 draft, since Nylander went 8th overall and Pastrnak went 25th overall. So they like to think of Pastrnak as a great steal which is easy to say when you see his goal production.

Then we should extremely proud of having AJ who all the other teams past him not once, twice but 6 Times. Without even looking it up, pretty sure if there is a redraft on AJ’s year, he will be top 20-25 if not higher.

Exactly and you can say that about any player who was not drafted in the top 5 or top 10 of any draft. So saying how Pastrnak was some amazing steal is a stretch because he still went in the 1st round. Hell Claude Giroux for example went 22nd overall in 2006 and I'm sure there are teams who wish they could go back and select him.

Only here would a guy on a 100 point pace, top Pker, best takeaway artist in the league, out protecting leads, leading forward minutes, only here would he not even be allowed to enter into a conversation of who’s been our best. This place is insane.

Lol.
Marner had a long stretch playing realy bad, still went ppg during those games. I would put Matthews first, Marner second. then Nylander.

I would agree with this.

Who's been our best forward this season?
Matthews > Marner > Nylander > Tavares

Who's been our most consistent forward this season?
Matthews > Nylander > Marner > Tavares

That's no slight to any of our forwards, but it's great to see the internal competition between the big-4. Marner has been dominant since his bad start to the season.

I think Marner gets taken a bit for granted due to expectations. His play since coming back from the injury has been lights out. He does have worse stretches in games than he had last season. Games like against Chicago when he was just off with his passing most of the night. But he's still such a driver of offense, capable of generating grade A chances if given just a bit to work with. Over the course of the season, I have him second among our forwards. I'm not the biggest proponent of using points as an evaluation, but Marner being top 5 in the league since coming back from injury says something.

So are we blessed yet? Not sure but I don't think being blessed means out of a playoff spot after the allstar break.

You must think Keefe is a lousy coach because he chooses to play Marner more per game than Nylander. Who plays a worse forward more per game except an incompetent one?

Here is the thing. Nylander has played well. It is a fact. I cant however determine whether you just are a die hard fan of his to say such a thing or you just hate Marner a lot. Your comments on his injury asserting addition by subtraction still rank up there with the most absurd hot takes of the year. The recent conversation has stealthily moved from more consistent to better. What is your agenda except to push a dumb battle?
I am going to continue to cheer them all and that includes willy. Even when he doesnt score, I like the way he is pushing the game these days. I'm not blind by the changes he has made to his game. As far as ceiling go though, he needs to step up large to maintain a point per game for an extended period. Marners slump has him at low 90s per season this year. He has been over 90 for over 82 consecutive rs games since December 1, 2018. He has been on a top 5 streak since he started to play under Keefe.
Maybe you should sit on your agenda a while longer because it is a small room of people who believe what you assert.
