I'm not too fond with Kasperi's game thus far. He reminds me of Tlusty in a sense that there's stuff he'll do pretty well but then screw up on something that even a guy like Orr can do. Thankfully he's not even 20 yet. But it's blatantly obvious that Nylander and he are on different levels. His skating should help him as a kind of foundation to build up on. I think the next time he should get an extended look, it should be when he's putting points up for the Marlies.

As for Nylander...He's being robbed by his teammates. The finish on the Kadri pass was wonderful, as was the around the world setup. The only time he should be on the boards battling is when he's got an advantage. The team should give him tapes on not only how, but also when to engage. Stuff featuring Kane and datsyuk should be great learning tools on body positioning, especially with how strong datsyuk is on the puck. Seems like Nylander buckles when he's physically challenged.

My greatest memory of Tlusty was the time he showed up to camp overweight and then learning his name in Czech means to be thick/plump.

The more things change, the more they stay the same...

Kadri at 19 - 29 NHL GP 12 points - .41PPG

Nylander at 19 - 17 NHL GP 7 points - .41PPG

Kdri is born oct 6 1990. You are quoting his 2010-2011 seasons. That would make him 20. When he was 19 he was playing in junior.

Also. In his 20 yr old season kadri scored 41 pts in 44 games for the Marlies
Nylander was an ahl Allstar and led the league for the first 3 months as a 19 yr old. Scored 45 pts in 37 games.

Sooooooooo not really the same

The Marlie stats are irrelevant when looking at NHL potential. The NHL is all that matters.

Plus you might want to check the ages again.

2010/11 was Kadri's draft +2 year. This is Nylander's draft +2 year.

Irrelevant? Not when comparing two young players in similar roles.

And btw, Kadri turned 20 when he started his season in 2010/11, Nylander will turn 20 when he ends this one. There is a slight difference there. Kadri also made the league playing as a winger, Nylander, well he made it as a center. Also a difference.

Ok I'm confused. Kadri is an RFA for 2 more seasons and was drafted in 2009 due to his late birth. Does that mean he was almost 19 when he was drafted?

Plus Babcock intended to use Nylander on the wing as well if it weren't for injuries.

Young, experienced, doesn't matter what you do in the AHL. Only the NHL is relevant when determining the effectiveness of a pro's career once they reach that level.

Ask PAP.

Yes. Matthews is missed the draft by 2 days. Theoretically children born 60 seconds apart could be in different drafts.
Crosby and kessel were like 2 months apart in age. Phil Drafted a year later.
Are you honestly saying that junior league pedigree has no bearing?
Nylander scored at a record rate in the SEL, was leading the Ahl at 19. You honestly think that means nothing???

Nylander has a higher offensive upside than Kadri IMO, better shot, better skater. Kadri brings more sandpaper to his game, physical play and agitating.

Thankfully we don't have to pick between the two so i don't see the debate. :)

Ok he intended to but he didn't... I don't really see how that's an argument

I don't quite think Nylander's post-draft trajectory is comparable. Although I think the odds are quite high he ends up closer to Nazem Kadri than he does Zetterberg or whatever.

I just want him to be able to hit the ice and turn the game on a dime. Like Phil Kessel, but with a better defensive game. That's where my expectations are right now. No pressure, Willie.

My point still stands!!! ;)

Both Karlsson and Nylander can float and look lacadasical! :)

But sometimes really smart players can look a bit hesitant since they are seeing the game develop in front of them and see some plays as very good opportunities for them to get the puck and a good scoring chance. So they are not attacking the puck directly but try to be where they think the puck will end up several moves from where it currently is at. Just because they dont always look engaging does not mean they are not in the game.

There is something to be said for looking like you are coasting as long as its just a ruse to get into position for a snipe a la Brett Hull.

Hello guys. I don't follow the Leafs that much but i remember reading from somewhere that Nylander was going to be sent back to the minors. Apparently that did not happen/is not happening? Thanks in advance.

He was supposed to be sent back and get ready for the Calder playoffs once Holland was back. But he is not and Kadri is probably suspended so he might stay up. Or if they make a tank move and bring some one else up.

Marlies don't play until Friday so He could get another 3 games in prior to that. There are a few other players with the Marlies that could/should get a call up. If Kadri is suspended its likely someone else is called up. Marlies also go about a week later after Leafs are done. Of all the movement with the Marlies, Nylander is the top prospect & it looks like the Leafs are treating him as such.

The exact timing is a big question mark. He could play Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday & Sunday, if they want. Maybe they'll give him some time off & leave him with the Leafs & officially return him to Marlies too late to play their Sunday game keep him at 4 games instead of 6 in the next 7 days.

Edit: Looks like Clune has been called up to cover Kadri's suspension.
