What bothered me the most against the Sabres was how easy they took the puck from him. He looked really, really weak on the puck.

I don't ever expect him to be an intensity guy, a work horse along the boards. I hope he'll see an improvement and a better puck retrieval game based on his particular skill set. But getting stronger on the puck so he's not so easy to get it away from is an absolute must.

OPF 41 points

according to http://www.behindthenet.ca/projecting_to_nhl.php

His 45 points in 37 games in the AHL (1.21 PPG) should of translated to .535 PPG being 44 points in a full NHL season.

So I'm not surprised he got 41, and not concerned that he's playing overly hot or cold. Doing what he projected to do for a 19 year old.

Was just going to post something like this. over a full season he's on pace for 41 points. As a 19 year old...

Who was it that said Nylander's ceiling is a 2nd line C and 50-55 points LMFAO....

He will likely be a challenger for the calder next year imo, guy has been great and is clearly working out the kinks of his game.

He will only get better, especially with a full training camp and should continue to improve.

Wouldn't be shocked if he turns into a 60-70 point first liner at minimum.

It doesn't even factor in the stolen assist that Greening got, and the undoubtedly more points he would have if Parenteau and Greening could finish the chances he sets up for them. Willy also hits the post a lot as well.

I think he gets a nomination for the Calder next year but doesn't win it, I guess he will score around 55 points next year.

Yea we really aren't even factoring in line mates at all.

This guy is playing with borderline scrubs right now, put Connor Brown and Marner on his wing and see how well they play(brown looked great and was improving as he went along).

His offensive skill is off the charts, next season is the season where we need to start to at least try and win, adding some legitimate talent instead of mediocre vets.

It will depend on who Babcock gives the better wingers to, him or Matthews.

If I had to guess now what Nylander could become 70 point C would be my hope/guess.

Which gives us a solid 1st liner, or an elite 2nd line option.

Would be a Detroit(Datsyuk+Zetterberg) or Pittsburgh(Malkin+Crosby) level of C-depth if we get stamkos and/or Mathews IMO.

Both Mathews/Stamkos and Nylander are or will be 70+ point centres.

it's at least 2 sometimes 3 or 4 top notch chances created each game that are not finished..

This ... the only game that he totally sucked in was last game and maybe 2 other.

Other than that he's been creating more chances than any Leafs players since call up....

People stat watch and think he's invisible in some games... sigh

Matthews-Marner
Nylander-Kapenen/ The abundance of 2nd line upside wingers we posses.

If we get Matthews I'd expect 4 of the 6 of our top line to score at least 55 points not bad.

Just curious, is everyone convinced Kapenen is legit? I don't love what I've seen from him so far

Likely needs more time in the AHL, he's only 19 and many prospects develop at different paces.

he looks very much like an NHL'er in different spurts, but has some kinks to work out imo, just isn't quite ready yet. With another AHL season under his belt I think he'll be good to go.

He's only played 45 AHL games so far VS Nylanders 74, so he is very early in his AHL career.

The pain Babcock alluded to earlier this year is obviously the pain of watching plugs like Greening and Laich miss tap-ins from perfect Nylander saucers.

I guess you can call him whatever you like down the line.
1C, 2C, 1A, 1B, it doesn't matter. Nylander is highly skilled and will be a good player for us. He does however, at this time, have much to work on. No doubt Babs will give him a list.
Now I'm sure he works hard this offseason and improves his game but for me, I see him as always more offensive than defensive. Yes he will get better but I don't think he will ever be confused with a premier 2-way center. Matt Duchene probably isn't winning a Selke anytime soon. Finding/drafting a compliment center for him is a priority. An O'Reilly/Bergeron type.

I will not say he is a Selke candidate either but he, a 19 year old kid, has been very responsible versus top end talent since coming up to the club.
I can see him becoming a great 2 way centre. Maybe not a Selke candidate, but a competent first line centre.

Babcock specifically mentioned Kapanen & Lindberg as both playing well after the Buffalo game. There line was the best line that game. No mention of them this game.

I thought Kapanen looked good, some mistakes that could be attributed to not being familiar with his teammates. Passing to a D that moved away from where he was. He flew into the offensive zone a few times today, gaining it with lots of speed, really backed up the D. Battled for some pucks which resulted in a penalty called against Detroit. I think he just needs to play more confident when out there, that will come with more time.

The 1st half of the season was very painful, felt apathetic towards the team, don't even remember watching a single full-game.

right after the deadline though it's been a joy to watch all of these rookies play, the energy level has risen like crazy and the team is fun to watch again.

Can't wait to see Nylander and the other young players progress even more next year. With a few key moves(mathews/stamkos) I wouldnt be shocked if we fight for that 8th wild-card spot.

Yup I can definitely see Willy leading the way with a 45-60 point campaign.

It it wont even take 2 first overalls to do it :sarcasm:
