They have tried punishment. Works a few games. But then u have to change a big part of the team to punish one player. He needs to dictate the second line. "this is yours we belive in you, u are a core piece". Not "we expect u to fail so u get grandpa to babysit, if u dont behave you get the timeout chair."

The irony of that play is the most important. He can make a superstar level play yet doesnt have ambition to want it. His floor should be 80 points a year, which is what he is doing now, his ceiling is 100-120 points.
He seems to be doing it more consistently, especially when not playing with Tavares, and doing it during the playoffs.

Which would you rather have: a $7M player with a floor of 80 points who performed really well last playoffs, or an $11M player whose ceiling is 80 points and hasn't had a good playoffs since 2016?

Yeah I consider Nylander's line the 2nd line. Kerfoot's gone ice old since being paired with Tavares and the majority of Mikheyev's goals are solo missions with his crazy speed.
A good reason why I'd like to see Nylander playing with Kerfoot and Mikheyev, and not wasting them with Tavares.

He certainly seems like someone who can play on any line.

22 points in last 20 games.

Tied for 49th. PPG with players who have played 40 games or more.

I think the Tavares-Nylander relationship isn't working as well as some others could.

Engvall might work with him, just need some fine tuning, I think Engvall needs to slow the game down a bit in his mind.

Willy natural talent is probably of the top 2% in the league, if he had the same drive as say someone like Kucherov, I think he'd easily be a top 10 player in the league.

Who is this $11 mil player with an 80 point ceiling? Or is this an imaginary player?

He's definitely at his best when he's with guys who keep up with him in terms of speed

Engvall doesn't look good trying to keep up with Nylander. Engvall has developed tunnel vision as well not using his line mates (on that line, not all season). Sounds familiar?

They need to get Nylander someone to play with next season.

I think this guy is underpaid. I will never understand the fuss about his contract in first place.

Looked good to close out the season. We will desperately need playoff Willy if we are to get past the Bolts.

Kinda nervous putting him with JT after they haven't played sustained 5 on 5 together for a while. If they're on the ice for 2 even strength Goals Against on Monday I think you break them up and don't put them back together for the rest of the series. Too much at stake.

Just get rid of him already, he’s just going to be used as the scapegoat for his entire Leafs career anyways, even if he’s the only player showing up to this years playoffs, like last year

The fuss was Dubas caving. I don’t think anyone cares about the value of the contract.

Wouldn't that be a weird take since Nylander is the one who made the last ditch overture?

Although the two sides had been in regular contact, things didn't get moving until the 11th hour when Nylander called Dubas to get a deal done.
