U realize that Nylander could win the Art Ross if he wanted too? Tavares must have nightmares about Nylander and the unknown effort levels he will bring from game to game. No ones likes unrealiable, but Nylanders insane talent cuts him slack.
Nylander probably has nightmares of Taveras not passing and missing easy tap ins. Willy could have had 8-10 more points despite his intensity drop of JT wasn't a complete drag.

He's in the exact role he should be in, making less money than players his caliber usually make. That being said, he's lazy defensively as all hell still and he's soft, but if he wasn't surrounded with so many soft players it wouldn't be so obvious. I also think he doesn't fit with Tavares and needs to play with faster players

Probably a good thing. The frustrating play of JT bar the last two games has been incredibly tough to watch.
Yeah tough to say. Personally I’m not a fan of the low pulse guys but I’m not programmed that way, so I don’t really get it. IMO this is what has always held Nylander back.

No disagreement from me. He could be a 90pt player. He is that good. Consistency is an issue.

Having said that he delivered in the playoffs and for what he's being paid, he's giving us surplus value.

He certainly conveys confidence. Sometimes, confidence appears like effortlessness. But...to get there, you gotta put in a whole lot of work. And Nylander didn't get the way he did or the shape he's in without a whole lot of work.

He led the club in points in the playoffs last year. It is a myth that he has a diva attitude just like it's a myth he's a perimeter player.

He's the most unnecessarily maligned player this club's had since Larry Murphy. I didn't get it then and I don't get it now.
Then you're wilfully ignoring his bad habits

agreed it was .......... but the problem is he only shows up for that 1 play every game. hes invisible otherwise.
he reminds me more and more of A.Semin after every season.
Never really thought of Semin being a comparable, but yeah I can see how you get that out of Willie

I doubt it. Nylander is the type that completely forgets the game the moment he leaves the rink.

Which is why he's actually ideal for a market like Toronto. The attitude that seems to annoy some fans means he just shuts out the media noise at whim.

Emotional guys always seem to crack under pressure here

Read any of my posts about Will, I go out of my way to say how extremely talented he is and always have. I've been around this game my entire life and I recognize talent as well as a lack of it, what Nylander lacks is consistency and drive.
I don’t need to read any of your posts to know that you believe Nylander is worthy of criticism to a degree I disagree with. You’re not distinguishing your level of criticism from the choir that’s calling for him to be moved or citing him as lazy or a permit er player.

I think that’s a baseless position now and as I noted, as baseless as the constant stream of calls for trading Larry Murphy.

I’ve been around the game a while as well. I’m a dyed in the wool never won a Cup in my lifetime Leaf fan…That has little to do with the worth of my opinion (or yours) other than I m able to reference Murphy at a whim and see the similarities.

He could be so much better, astounding skill but so little heart. But then again, maybe it’s my old sorry eyes.

If you air lifted Nylander onto a roster like Calgary's for example, you'd be able to appreciate him for doing what he does on a team with a lot of the meat and potatoes stuff figured out. But I think he and Tavares hurt each others games and we're kind of seeing Nylander's breakout year sputter out back to the same inconsistent play.

I think he's capable of some big 40 goal, 80 point seasons in the future when he hits his peak, but whether that's unlocked in Toronto or somewhere else a la Kadri, who knows.

Move bunting to Tavares line. Marner and Matthews can handle that, if the cant we defenitly cant blame Nylander for his play.

Were I Willys coach, I’d hand on my papers. You just never know what you’re getting, and I don’t know how you change that. Gold one night, pyrite the next. Maybe a Messier could scare the shit outta him, but alas those days are gone. Maybe a Chara or Gio could ‘have a talk, just you and me’ ‘ya know wad I’m sayin’

He and Tavares need to be separated big time. He’s one of my favourite players, so I’ve been pretty easy on him for most of the season. With that said, he’s been pretty much nonexistent for most of 2022 along with John Tavares. He’s just a streaky player, always has been, always will be. He’ll always be soft and a floater, that’s just what he does, he won’t change that.
