Derek Lowe pitched pretty decent on 2 days rest in game 7 of the 2004 ALCS.

Atta girl. The sinker baller throwing 89 mph on 2 days rest because the only other alternative was knuckleballer who had pitched in relief a couple days earlier.

If you have 4 good starters, you use them.

If you go with 3 starters then the game 1 starter (Price) would be in line to pitch again on Monday on 3 days rest.

It's not like the Jays would be throwing out some scrub as the 4th pitcher, it's not the end of the world to go with 4 starters. Price, Stroman, Dickey and Estrada are all going to give you a chance to win.

For some It helps to have someone with a good character voice on the radio who speaks well.

Probably won't know until after the Wild Card game on Tuesday night. If the Jays are playing the Yankees or Angels, they might be the prime time game; otherwise, I suspect that they'll be in the early game because of the fact that the Toronto/Canadian market does not count towards the bradcaster's rating.

Better to have a 4th starter and rarely/never need him than be forced to use a guy on super short rest or (god forbid) pitch a start-by-committee game with pen guys. Advantage of Estrada as that #4 also is that he started the year as and has historically largely been a reliever. So it's a role he can slide into if need be much more easily than one of hte other starters or pushing a season-long reliever into long-man, 3+ inning role.

EDIT: Apparently this is the 6th time this season he's pitched at least 6 hitless innings.
