And to think all they dealt for the draft pick to select Cuylle was Lias Andersson. What a steal. Rangers need to make more sneaky trades like this

Sometimes draft picks work out, sometimes not. The amount of luck you need increases with each round. Does that mean it's a crapshoot? Kinda yea. But there's still some skill involved. I'd say in the first two rounds, it's like 50/50 in terms of skill vs luck of the front office. Higher luck vs skill is required in rounds 3 and beyond.

In all seriousness, though, this also highlights how the Rangers seem to do much better with their 2nd-round picks as opposed to their 1st-round picks (or perhaps more accurately, low-1st-round picks and 2nd-round picks as opposed to their high-1st-round picks).

What I'm saying is: the Rangers should have traded the #7 overall for #60 straight up, and saved us all a lot of heartache.

Cuylle tracking for a 68 point season without much PP time. I figure that number will regress slightly and he will be more of a 50-55 point guy this year, Those are still Tom Wilson/Brady Tkachuk numbers, and those guys get much more PP time. As he ages, Cuylle can be the player we always dreamed we'd have. A big physical top 6 scorer who can answer the heavyweights if needed. He will be a monster at 28.

I could easily see 50. He's got 14pts in 17 games, that's 0.82 ppg. And that's with some bad luck / a couple disallowed. If he scores at 0.55 ppg over the last 65 games, he hits 50 points.

This is the type of abrasive player we could use more of.

It also appears tjat Kakko will be back in the 40+ point stratosphere.

What he’s done so far is incredible, thinking long-term I know it’s not the rangers MO to go long term out of an ELX usually but Cuylle is someone they might have to think about doing so.

Good at most things great at almost nothing still results in a good player.

Alex Killorn esque in that he can play with more talented players and fit in well or he can play with less talented players and actually make them more effective.

He’s the Swiss Army knife the Rangers thought they were getting with Lias.
