Vlad Firstov had a nice rookie year in the KHL last year, and has improved year over year. He's only 22 but 4th on his team in scoring, and is only being loaned to the KHL team since he's signed with the Wild. I'd love to see him come back to America after maybe one more year with Torpedo, if he's up for it.
They tried to bring him back last year and he said no. I know things can change but he bolted two years ago and then turned down offer to return last year, so I doubt he will come over...at least for the Wild.

Annnd Masters recalled right back to AHL today lol.

I didnt see this coming but it actually makes complete sense. Presumably the AHL team doesnt want to handicap the rest of the team's success by playing a completely young af defensemen group so they're bouncing guys back and forth to the ECHL team to get games in.

Keep in mind that its only about an hour and a half drive from des moines to coralville (iowa city basically) where the echl team plays.

Could that pave a way back to the WHL?
I really dont think that's likely. He showed and achieved all he needed to at that level imo.

Also what team would he go to? Back to Kamloops now that everyone's left them and they cant win a game? Or to some other place he's never lived? Basically just pissing off the player and stunting his development for no real benefit imo. I'm sure he's happier earning a real paycheck (and not a WHL stipend) even if it means splitting his time between coralville and des moines

f***ing Baddock just hit Spacek, injuring him, and then Lambos went after Baddock to try and get him to drop the gloves. The two times I saw the hit it looked clean. We will see if Spacek is on the bench to start the 3rd.

Lambos really needs to know who not to fight. Baddock is a no talent minor leaguer, but really big, strong, and a good fighter. He gave DeLo a good fight a few years ago in the pre season... Lambos will get hurt fighting him.

The Wild announcer was saying that Kessy would normally be the guy going after him in these situations. Is Kessy injured? I don't follow Iowa closely enough to know who is in and out. Glad that Baddock didn't fight Lambos though.

After... *gasp*... a game where he didn't score a point, Heidt had a 5 point night. He seems to be almost exclusively a set up man for Funk and Perascak, though I have seen footage of him missing out on quite a few goals either because of a bad bounce, or great goaltending.

What a slacker.

Gonna be a couple of interesting conversations next summer. Wallstedt vs. Yurov for #1. Is Heidt #3?

I previously had him right around Khusnutdinov and Ohgren, I think I probably have him at 3 now.

I think Wallstedt is still the clear #1 prospect. The stark difference between his numbers and McIntyre's numbers are something to behold.

Wallstedt: 16GP 11-5-0 2.02 GAA .935 sv%
McIntyre: 8GP 0-6-2 3.82 GAA .880 sv%

McIntyre has allowed almost the same amount of goals (30 vs 32) as Wallstedt while playing roughly half the games/minutes.

Wallstedt is a difference maker.

Yurov is easily the #2 guy.

#3 will be whoever our 1st round draft pick is for the 2024 draft. My hope is someone like Levshunov.

I am super excited for Yurov and like him more than Wallstedt but a 21 year old goalie putting up his numbers on a below average team in NA is more impressive to me thus far.

Who would you have as the #1 next year, Gus or Wall?

Wallstedt should start as the #2 with both getting a decent amount of starts.
Yeah, de facto right now Gus is #1 and Fleury #2 and apart from the first weeks of this year that's been true since like midseason last year I think? So Wallstedt would step right into Fluery's hole but I believe them when they say they'll start whoever's playing best. Evason and the org proved themselves on that by passing the baton to Gus in the first place and Hynes has reaffirmed it by riding Gus pretty hard since coming here.

Wallstedt in net again tonight versus Rockford :)

Looks like Spacek is playing tonight, so nothing serious for the injury
