This is why I wish there was an exception to allow a limited amount of players to make the jump to the AHL.It's clear he needs higher competition.

Each team gets 1 exception every 3 years or something. This is why I wish there was an exception to allow a limited amount of players to make the jump to the AtHL.
Did we already use our exception? Each team gets 1 exception every 3 years or something.
It doesn't exist. It's just my idea to handle these scenarios in the future.Did we already use our exception?
Kraken general manager Ron Francis told me Monday that, after discussions with counterparts from the NHL and Ontario Hockey League (OHL), he’ll be granted an exemption to send Wright to the American Hockey League in lieu of the junior ranks if he doesn’t make the squad. The Kraken announced Tuesday they’ll stage a rookie camp Sept. 18 and 19 at the Kraken Community Iceplex followed by full camp opening on Sept. 21
Oh, whoops. It doesn't exist. It's just my idea to handle these scenarios in the future.
I will scream.Guy on the prospect board just said Yurov is re-signing for another year.
I agree with this. It's much better to be doing this well versus not. It's clear he needs higher competition.
If he returns to the CHL next season then what's the point of even playing? He needs to find a better league. Rossi was going to play in an overseas men's league after he lead the OHL in scoring. If he's not AHL eligible, then he either needs to be in the NHL or a men's league somewhere outside of NA.
Possibly. He still shouldn't have stayed in the OHL after leading the league.Didn't Rossi do it because the entire OHL season was cancelled that year?
Looks like it.Didn't Rossi do it because the entire OHL season was cancelled that year?
He was going home regardless I believe... but I could be wrong.Didn't Rossi do it because the entire OHL season was cancelled that year?
In the spirit of accuracy, he said it's being negotiated. That's not a done deal, but it might end up being one. In my experience, usually players only negotiate with a team if they would like to play for them still.Guy on the prospect board just said Yurov is re-signing for another year.
Wright was an exemption player though.Apparently Shane Wright got a negotiated exemption this year.

Kraken prospect Shane Wright will be allowed to play in AHL if he can’t make NHL squad
Top prospect Shane Wright will have at least one less major thing to worry about next week when attending his second Kraken training camp.www.seattletimes.com
Apparently not exempt until Seattle, the NHL & OHL negotiated it?Wright was an exemption player though.
@Digitalbooya and I walked through this before.Apparently not exempt until Seattle, the NHL & OHL negotiated it?
So the Wild better be fighting hard to get him to the AHL next season!@Digitalbooya and I walked through this before.
Shane Wright was granted exceptional status in the OHL, last year would have been his fourth season in the OHL, allowing for automatic access to the AHL this season, but he only played 24 games, and the cutoff for a full season in CHL terms is 25, so he still technically didn't meet the threshold, which is why he had to get the permission this year.
Riley Heidt was not granted exceptional status. This year would technically be his third full season in the WHL by CHL standards, however, he played 22 out of his teams 22 total games in 2020-21, the covid shortened year where the OHL didn't even play and Wright still got credit for a full season, so by that metric, this is his fourth "full" season, meaning he should be able to get permission to play in the AHL next season, assuming the Wild advocate for it. He has, for all intents and purposes, met the criteria, it's just a matter of if the NHL is gonna be on their bullshit or not.
Looking at it another way too, Wright played 156 games in the OHL, Heidt has currently played 198, and he still has the rest of this season to go.
Because Wright had technically four seasons. He missed the 20-21 due to the pandemic ad he barely missed last season.Apparently not exempt until Seattle, the NHL & OHL negotiated it?
He was technically a few games short, but @AKL cleared that up above.Because Wright had technically four seasons. He missed the 20-21 due to the pandemic ad he barely missed last season.
Heidt technically has only three seasons. His draft year didn't count as he didn't get the exemption.
Great sharing, sounds like Heidt has a great perspective on the whole thing. I hope he feeds off of it and it drives him forward. He seems very coachable, and has a high level spatial awareness. Hard to put limits on what he could become if he gives it his all.I'm more on the "excited for heidt but the hype is getting to be a bit much" side of things but since its come up there's an article about him on nhl.com right now:

Also Prince George local paper ran a story about him getting snubbed for WJC and got comments from Craig Button on it:

Button : “Players who are 18 are rarely ready for this tourney as it truly is a 19-year-old tournament. As it relates to Riley, I would express that he is not ready at this time. He was evaluated but like a lot of other players at this age, their time for this tourney is not now."
Bottom-6 for them, I would assume? Either way, that's great news!Rasmus Kumpulainen made the Team Finland's final roster.
Based on the exhibition game lineups, yes. He played the first game as a winger on the 3rd line and the second game as a center on 4th line.Bottom-6 for them, I would assume? Either way, that's great news!
