I've had him in my untouchables list from the start,
Since he is 2003 born technically it is a U21 season for him though.

Still some quality goal and assists for him today.

Guess I don't know how all that works, I was just looking at age and draft year and sorted the site by U19 and U20. Regardless, still an exciting time to be a Yurov fan.

I'm not entirely sure what is that site you mean, at least in eliteprospects he is listed in the U21 filter category. But yeah, U19, U20, U21 things are usually counted by the birth year, so it can be differing from the D+1, D+2 etc. for the guys who have late birthday like Yurov does.

I looked back at it and I went 1 Wallstedt, 2 Faber, 3 Rossi, 4 Yurov. I feel pretty good about that order still, though Yurov has impressed even more than I thought he would, which was already amply. I think those are all of our top tier of prospect, and then there's a drop-off after it.
Absolutely! I feel like those guys will be an excellent core to build around. We also have some complementary prospects too... Ohgren, Khusnutdinov, Heidt, Haight, Bankier, (Stramel). Just need probably two or three of those guys to turn into middle 6 players.

Curious, who was your number 5?

The guy can't be stopped right now. On pace for 48 points in 63 games. For reference, Kaprizov had 27 points in 53 games in his D+1 year. This is tracking to be the best U19 season ever in the KHL, and even one of the best U20 seasons.

Yurov had 12p in 56 games in his D+1 year. This is his D + 2 year. He turns 20 in a month.

Sure! I had to look it up, but that appears to be Marat Khusnutdinov. He was then followed by Liam Ohgren. I'm not quite as sure on those two, now, as the ones before them.

I still wonder how high Faber's ceiling is. If he just ends up as another Brodin, he's still a firm #4 on that list for me.

I think he's already shown to have more offensive awareness and a better shot than Brodin. Even with that being said, you would need to be a special prospect in order to be ranked higher than Yurov in my books. Wallstedt is the only one that qualifies IMO. Rossi came out of nowhere this year. I'm still not convinced that he'll be better than Yurov, but I love the upward trajectory he is on.

I looked at the "who are your top 10 prospects" thread, I bought into the shiny new toy hype by putting Stramel ahead of Rossi, Faber, and Ohgren instead of going with what I saw last year. Then I quickly course corrected in the prospect ranking threads going Wallstedt, Yurov, Khusnutdinov, Rossi, Ohgren and then Faber at #6.

I want to do a mid season top 10 prospect rankings list around January and then compare it to next summer's prospect rankings post draft.

I think I'm here right now

1) Wallstedt
2) Yurov
3) Lambos
4) Heidt
5) Khusnutdinov
6) Ohgren
7) Spacek
8) Peart
9) Hunt
10a) Kumpulainen
10b) Stramel

Pretty solid list. Here's where I am:

1. Wallstedt
2. Yurov
3. Khusnutdinov
4. Ohgren
5a. Spacek
5b. O'Rourke
7a. Hunt
7b. Lambos
9. Heidt
10. Haight

I tried to combine both potential and where they currently are in terms of the organization.

Wallstedt - Most NHL ready and highest ceiling
Yurov - Probably NHL ready and a high ceiling - bonus points if he's a center
Khusnutdinov - Had a rough start to the year, but he's starting to return to form. Really solid season last year in the KHL
Ohgren - I like that he's a swiss army knife type player, big bodied, and a goal scorer
Spacek/O'Rourke - This has been a pretty solid pairing. Definitely like their potential and skillsets. Hoping they get a stint in the NHL soon to see what they need to work on.
Hunt/Lambos - These two are like polar opposites. I view Hunt as a guy who could likely play 3rd pairing NHL minutes right now and not look out of place. I also don't see a ton of room to grow. Don't think he will be an NHL top 4 guy. Lambos is not NHL ready. His positioning is questionable. His offensive skillset and willingness to learn should give him an edge in the upside department long term. Could be a top 4 NHL player. Could fizzle out like Addison.
9. Heidt - 3rd in the WHL for scoring. I've seen him mostly just highlights of him and he looks like a highly skilled player. I do question why he dropped so far in the draft.
10. Haight is one of those guys that is more I have at least heard that he is really good and makes skilled plays from non-HF posters. I haven't really watched him much.

Peart - I have not heard or seen anything on him outside of HF opinions. I'd like to think he's somewhere in the top 10, but I have no idea how he plays or if anyone thinks he will be a legit NHLer.

My old list was 1. Wallstedt, 2. Yurov, then I stopped/missed voting. Only akl had Yurov 1. Our top 4 is pretty good. Wallstedt, Yurov, Rossi, Faber.

Peart is probably my favorite D prospect. LH Faber, though it remains to be seen if he can thicken up like him. Got to watch Pionk in a couple of games and was impressed with his skating and ability to handle the puck. Has some height to him, but looks thin, though not weak. Have to keep in mind that he was picked as a double overager. He's only 8 months younger than ROR/Hunt, and is older than Peart, even though Peart was picked two drafts earlier. Still, an interesting long play.

Lorenz has been the most impressive prospect relative to my expectations so far this season and I already voted for him 10 times the last rankings. Neck and neck with the other 19 year old 6'2/3 sophomore forward IMO.

I've been watching Khusnutdinov closely this season while watching Michkov. You'll be disappointed, when he comes to NA. On Sochi he's like another Garayev, he produces while playing with Michkov and Tyanulin and he doesn't without them. I wish Matvei and Artur had a more competent center on their line, it could be one of the best lines in KHL.

At the very best he'll maybe become a decent 3rd liner in NHL. At the very best. I question his IQ. I'd actually look at Tyanulin, who's as good skater as Marat and better in everything else. Yeah, he's almost 27 but he actually looks NHL ready and can play on the 3rd line right away, and play good. Khusnutdinov isn't ready, and I'm not sure when he'll be, if be at all...

Yurov on the other hand is going to be good...

Yikes. I appreciate you sharing your insights, even if I don't like what they reveal.

It’s weird Khusnutdinov looks like that. Not at all what people were saying last year. I know he’s not a flashy player but I’m suprised his IQ is in question. I appreciate the update.

I've always thought that Haula would be a good comparison for him. Excellent skater, good defensively, bit of offense. I know people on here, including myself after last year, had higher hopes for him.

If he ends up being the next Connor Dewar it'll be a disappointment, for sure.

In some ways it'll be a disappointment for me, but that's only in relation to my heightened expectations after last season. In the greater scheme of things, getting a solid 4th line center with a 2nd round pick is a win. Getting an actually potent offensive player at that point is a steal that only a few teams per draft tend to get.
