I know it's been said a few times in this thread, but it is so vital to understand, and I hear it stated sooooooo often re: the Wild, that I will repeat it and urge you all to shout it from the heavens:

There is no possible way, nor any alternate universe, where the Wild don't A) have the 15M dead cap, or B) have ~2.5M less cap space and 2 roster spots taken up by Parise and Suter

You could argue maybe one or both of those guys would be LTIR'ed by now, but without those buyouts, the Wild would have had less cap space, been a worse team each season since the buyouts (because the small extra cap and room on the roster for good ELC players like Boldy and Faber), and would have lost Dumba in the SEA expansion draft, because Suter and Parise had NMCs and were not willing to waive for any reason at all (so no possible way to trade them with double retention or anything either, though the cost would have been prohibitive).

Tl;dr: the 15M cap penalty was inevitable, because Parise and Suter weren't even close to living up to those contracts enough to accept all the losses that not buying them out would have caused :help:
They’d have $2M more cap space because they wouldn’t have had to bring in Goligoski as a replacement for Suter. The buyouts were bad & I will always contest that they’re more due to Guerin’s “my way or the highway” attitude. He preached ridding the locker room of the country club mentality & has created an even worse situation.

Those buyouts have not helped this team at all.

Fair, though any version of "but they decided to have 15M in dead cap" is still dumb :eyeroll:

Why the f*** is this team allergic to hiring actual good coaches? What an absolute joke

It was clear that Evason had lost the players, and his previous playoff failures helped earn his firing, but it's the lazy move by a lazy GM. Dean was saddled with a so-so team, and due to the GM making lazy moves by extending virtually every player, the only move is to trade the coach. And to top off the laziness, the GM hires an old country club member and two-time failure Hynes. This team isn't going anywhere with Guerin at the helm.

Oh man if I didn't despise Leipold so much I would almost feel sorry for the Wild.

When the Preds fired Lavy and hired Hynes all of the NJ posters told us he was crap, and he limped along with the COVID seasons kind of bailing him out and then one year we had so many vets hurt he was forced to play some young guys who were actually hungry and dragged us into yet another WC2 spot.

If the Wild have any promising prospects who are waiting for some ice time, they are up shit creek. He will play old busted veterans and let the youngsters languish in the press box or the AHL.

How, just how does Hynes keep finding head coaching gigs? Is there some sort of pact among GMs to make sure this guy always has a head coaching gig within a year of being let go?

The guy has more lives than my cat

John Hynes officially joins the NHL old boys club of recycled head coaches, joining the rich history and tradition led by Peter Laviolette, Ken Hitchcock, Todd McLellan, and Bruce Boudreau.

All of those coaches at least accomplished something. Some won titles, others won President's trophies, Jack Adams awards, etc. But Hynes hasn't really done much other than manage to coach some fringe playoff teams to being stepping stones in the first round over 9 years.

The were was no real sustained improvement among any of the teams. I can't really think of another coach who gets this many chances with such a meh resume. I'm starting to think Hynes could sell Cable packages to Gen Z at this point. He must be amazingly persuasive.

Not saying the guy never deserves a chance again, but you usually would need to prove it at the lower levels or as an Assistant first.

If this move is actually for tanking purposes though, then I will give Guerin and company credit. That is pretty slick.

David Poile must still be an influential voice, should be the only reason someone could be talked into hiring Hynes. The Evason firing was going to happen eventually if they kept losing, but they easily got worse with this move.

Sounds like we'll never even know Evason is gone

Oh it's not, it's Guerin's incompetence

Evason was not the only issue with the team, but he sure as hell wasn’t the solution either. Dude hasn’t won a playoff series since 2004-05 season as HC.

It's weird how Evason is getting fired while the Sens coach is still there.

As for Hynes, it's always the old boys club. You are gonna need many bottle of ketchup to turn this around.

Who signed Parise and Suter to those deals again? Would Wild fans rather be paying $15 million to two washed up lazy bums, one who is out of the league? Problem is goaltending sucks. Maybe give Wallstedt a game or two and see what happens.
