Oh wow, Minny really shaking things up here being like the seventeenth team to think hiring John Hynes is "the answer."
They’d have $2M more cap space because they wouldn’t have had to bring in Goligoski as a replacement for Suter. The buyouts were bad & I will always contest that they’re more due to Guerin’s “my way or the highway” attitude. He preached ridding the locker room of the country club mentality & has created an even worse situation.I know it's been said a few times in this thread, but it is so vital to understand, and I hear it stated sooooooo often re: the Wild, that I will repeat it and urge you all to shout it from the heavens:
There is no possible way, nor any alternate universe, where the Wild don't A) have the 15M dead cap, or B) have ~2.5M less cap space and 2 roster spots taken up by Parise and Suter
You could argue maybe one or both of those guys would be LTIR'ed by now, but without those buyouts, the Wild would have had less cap space, been a worse team each season since the buyouts (because the small extra cap and room on the roster for good ELC players like Boldy and Faber), and would have lost Dumba in the SEA expansion draft, because Suter and Parise had NMCs and were not willing to waive for any reason at all (so no possible way to trade them with double retention or anything either, though the cost would have been prohibitive).
Tl;dr: the 15M cap penalty was inevitable, because Parise and Suter weren't even close to living up to those contracts enough to accept all the losses that not buying them out would have caused
He didn't get fired for telling the truth about Makar's and the Avs diving. He got fired cause the Wild are underperforming.Don't call Makar a diver and you won't get fired.

Fair, though any version of "but they decided to have 15M in dead cap" is still dumbThey’d have $2M more cap space because they wouldn’t have had to bring in Goligoski as a replacement for Suter. Those buyouts have not helped this team at all.
John Hynes officially joins the NHL old boys club of recycled head coaches, joining the rich history and tradition led by Peter Laviolette, Ken Hitchcock, Todd McLellan, and Bruce Boudreau.
All of those coaches at least accomplished something. Some won titles, others won President's trophies, Jack Adams awards, etc. But Hynes hasn't really done much other than manage to coach some fringe playoff teams to being stepping stones in the first round over 9 years.
The were was no real sustained improvement among any of the teams. I can't really think of another coach who gets this many chances with such a meh resume. I'm starting to think Hynes could sell Cable packages to Gen Z at this point. He must be amazingly persuasive.
Not saying the guy never deserves a chance again, but you usually would need to prove it at the lower levels or as an Assistant first.
If this move is actually for tanking purposes though, then I will give Guerin and company credit. That is pretty slick.
I doubt it. He could probably sell one to my dad though.[snip] I'm starting to think Hynes could sell Cable packages to Gen Z at this point. He must be amazingly persuasive.[/snip]
Their cap situation, is well, wow..................nice job Guerin...Definitely his fault and not the GM who put $15M of dead cap on the books
