Just for starters, Foligno sucked last year. Really sucked and became nothing but a penalty liability towards the end of the year. A smart GM would wait a little bit to see if a contract year would motivate the player to be better. But instead, Billy was so so desperate to keep him, that he threw the most ridiculous contract at him before the season even started.....a contract that will most likely be bought out further creating dead cap space. That's just ONE of the many reasons.

This is a GM who said this past summer that he really wanted to keep Reaves.

Foligno doesn’t look to be a great contract. What else you got? If you don’t mind, curious.

I get that a room might need a new voice. John Hynes is a typical recycled old boys club hire though.

John f***ing Hynes. Seriously?
One of Billy's buddies. His country club atmosphere continues. In other words, same #$@!, different day.

He'll make quick costly handshake deals with Goligoski and Foligno, because they're his kind of players and/or had connections to him in the past. He'll then turn around and treat a guy like Fiala (with actual skill) like crap. He will do the same to Kaprizov, because he isn't a "grit-first" kind of player.

I guess Cale Makar really did break him
He was going to be fired anyways. If anything Dean will make Makar think twice the next time he dives. The acting will need to improve. Makar should thank Dean for pointing out a flaw in his game plan so that he can correct it with some acting lessons. And the league should thank Dean for protecting its integrity.

How the f*** does John Hynes keep getting a job?
The man might be part cockroach. He was hired by the Predators less than a month after being fired by the Devils, and now hired by the Wild less than 6 months after being fired by the Predators.

This man has never really accomplished anything of note in the NHL. His best season, his team amassed 2 wins in the playoffs after finishing 5th in the Central. I guess he made it to the conference finals a couple of times in the AHL?

And Foligno.

Also he has given out NMC's to so many guys that he couldn't move them even if he wanted to.
Zucc looks like a complete stud playing with Kaprizov or am I wrong on that read?

Maroons cheap and effective or atleast usually has been though.

Goligoski I don’t know about.

But They don’t seem thattt bad of contracts.

And he will use the word “ identity” often. He prefers someone to go out of position to make a hit over someone going out of position to make a play. Hits>>>Goals

Not sure how Hynes is supposed to be an improvement.

Well, if there is another coach firing, there are some interesting candidates out there in Woodcroft and Evason.

Instead of buying out and taking on those penalties, he could have just kept Suter and Parise playing at approximately 15M cap hit per year for 4 years? Instead he bought them out and has 15M dead cap x 4 years still?
The penalty for Parise alone this season would have been a $21MM cap hit. The NHL has since revised its cap recapture maximums, but that is the confirmed amount by the league at the time the buyouts were made. Guerin and Leipold both contacted league representatives to confirm these before completing the buyouts.

Year after Suter retires from playing we're going to hire him as a coach.

Sort of...there's more nuance to the numbers than that. He had 12.7 dead cap last year, i think, about 7 M the year before, then 14.7M this year and next, to be be followed by just under 1M in each of the three next years.

Once you factor in the numbers for their replacements, it gets pretty pricey. For some reason, Guerin thought it was wise to sign a decrepit Goligoski for 3 x 3M in place of Suter. Goligoski has been healthy scratched or injured for large portions of his time in MN. At worst, MN is paying 9.7M(again, there is nuance) for a terrible Suter replacement rather than pay Suter 7.5M per year.

How to be Mid Forever : The Minnesota Wild Story
Well, that's not what MN is this year. More like bottom 5.

SAINT PAUL, Minn. – Minnesota Wild President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Bill Guerin today announced the National Hockey League (NHL) club has relieved Head Coach Dean Evason and Assistant Coach Bob Woods of their coaching duties.

“Dean did an excellent job during his tenure with the Minnesota Wild, especially as Head Coach of our team,” said Guerin. “I am very thankful for his hard work and dedication to our organization."

“I would also like to thank Bob for his hard work during his time as an Assistant Coach with the Wild,” said Guerin. “I wish Dean, Bob and their families all the best in the future.”
Guerin constructed a shit team and now the coach pays.

In year's past? Yes. But Kaprizov is broken right now. He hasnt shown up yet this season. There are rumors of a nagging injury, but Evason made it sound like he had no idea what was wrong with him. The coach has glued Kaprizov and Zucc's butts together nearly all year, because apparently Kaprizov can't function without his BFF. And if he did split them up, he'd never give them time to gel with anyone else before putting them right back together.
